We're not coining a new cute term, it's been described in greater detail before, that applies specifically to tech: https://doctorow.medium.com/tiktoks-enshittification-bb3f5df91979

I still maintain a regular blog. Have for a long time!

Pretty well describes my usage also

Hmm. I promise I read that article and I swear I don’t remember them explaining that (why they lost money) at all!

Oh well. It’s not like I’ll shed any tears for millionaires.

What do people think of Bluesky? They seem like they're making a go at federation, though via their own newer protocol. I wonder why they didn't stick with ActivityPub? Perhaps their devs weren't keen on some technical aspect, and so decided to go their own way?

I'm wary of it, but I'm on it, and it seems okay. They have algorithms, but they're on Github, and they tell you how you can make your own, and you can subscribe to what you want. I don't see any ads, either. It...kind of just looks like a maybe more polished version of Masto?

Aw man, that’s cool as hell, I’m so glad you have that!

Wrote a short story I was really happy with. I mean, I'm always writing something, but I'm usually kind of 'meh' about what I come up with. Every once in a while, though, I write something and I just know that it's good, like I can feel it, and I can say to myself, 'yeah, this is really hitting the mark.' As a writer, I'm always chasing that feeling. It's like a drug. So last night I wrote 2,000 words of a new 3,500 word story that just came to me, all in one shot, like a vision, and I'm so enjoying how this one is coming together.

Not as much as I probably should be! I have a nice little Proxmox cluster, backed by a UPS and a beefy NAS, but mostly I use it for fussing around with stuff, playing with instances, nothing really mission critical.

That's horrifying

What frustrated you about SearXNG?

I love the frugality and cleverness on display here with the glass, well done!

I just saw this today and I'm going to give it a try: https://www.snapcalorie.com/ Supposedly you take a picture of your food and it will tell you how many calories, portion, etc. I'm pretty skeptical that it'll work, but it's intriguing, regardless. Though, it has a monthly price of $29, which is nuts.

Unrelated: I just saw your username is "Marin," and I got so excited by that! I'm a traditionally published author (I write horror, you can even find at least one of the books my work is in at your local book store), and the main character in almost all of my stories is Marin. It's never the same 'person,' but the character always has pieces of me in every story, if that makes sense. The gender might change, or the age, or where they're from, etc., but I always put some dash of myself in Marin, so it kind of feels like a way for me to carry the character through different stories.

Anyway, super cool to see someone with that username :)

I don't see any reason to migrate away from 1Password, which works great for me. I have a family plan and everyone in the house has their own personal vault.
