Whatcha all been playing?

I finally beat Indiana Jones. Very solid game. Perhaps a bit too long and has some noticeable jank. But I really liked it overall

Also got to play the Elden Ring Nightrein network test. Damn, that game is super super fun. I'm really excited to play the full release!

Today I undervolted my brother's amd rx 6950xt by 120mv ( at 125mv a game we tested would crash at 100% usage and max power draw ).

Also made his fan curve more agressive cause by default it never wen't over 55% fan speed which is just stupid.

This in total lowered his temps across in mist games from average 80C to 55-60C and lowered power draw on average by 20W.

It also allowed him to play supraland at max settings with gpu not going over 70C instead of lowest setting 80C on average.

So yeah, if you never tried or bothered with undervolting try it and post your results. Or if you did it before post your story and results.

NO-SKIN is a turn-based roguelite survival horror with gruesome pixel art and obscure story. I've been playing the free beta some time ago and this game rocks!

so if Mewt made up Ivalice does that mean that Ramza's whole story... is a footnote in history for a world that only existed as background for a bunch of kids who can barely play snowballs??? those kids made up Cúchulainn the Tainted King because nobody splained about death properly to Mewt who is like 9???? I can't BELIEVE this I don't have a single Tactic for this

I've been playing Red Dead Redemption 2 again recently and have been thoroughly enjoying it, but this one thing has always bugged be about this game and Rockstar games in general, and that's how restrictive they are with their mission design. You decide to get off your horse too early when riding to an objective, mission failure. You stand outside a building too long while your friends go inside, mission failure. The list goes on, but you get the point. If you go even slightly outside the railings of the amusement park ride Rockstar has setup, instant mission failure.

This whole issue is made even worse by how in contrast the missions are with the open world. The open world is a sandbox where you can handle situations how ever you want. It feels like a living, breathing world where NPCs will react to your actions. It almost feels like there were two entirely separate teams working on the open world and missions, who aren't coordinating. Given how big Rockstar is that could absolutely be the case.

I've also been playing Kingdom Come Deliverance II and that game is in a lot of ways quite similar to RDR2 with it's set protagonist, realism, and open world sandbox. The flexibility of how you can handle quests in that game really highlights the shortcomings of RDR2. I know KCDII is an RPG and focuses more on player dialogue choices, but the existence of the honor system demonstrates how Rockstar is willing to let player actions dictate the story and world, so they could at least let some of that bleed into the missions. Maybe sprinkle a few high and low honor choices into missions, and don't fail the mission if you do something slightly wrong. Have the world react to the player not doing what you want. Have your friends call after you if you're lagging behind or something. I'm pretty sure that already happens in the game at some point.

Thank you for listening to my rant. This is just something I've been meaning to put into words for awhile.

"Single-player games with plenty of weapons to upgrade, skills to gain, and currencies to spend are perhaps the archetypal iteration of this phenomenon, but almost all contemporary games contain some mimetic elements of work and market exchange. They don’t offer fantasies of escape, of imaginative play for its own sake; they offer a fantasy of rules—a rationality otherwise missing from the contemporary wage labor process. Vicky Osterweil has called this type of game a “utopian work simulator”; it doles out rewards at predictable intervals in exchange for our disciplined effort. These rewards can make the game easier, allow us to purchase in-game adornments, signal our achievements to others, and progress in a logical and satisfying trajectory toward an achievable goal. Games remain a form of diversion, but what they divert us from is not our labor, but our disappointment with its volatility, its arbitrariness, its cruelty and unfairness."

The blogger demonstrated how much FPS the RTX 5090 graphics card can deliver in the game Cyberpunk 2077. With and without DLSS, in 4K and at different settings.

For me, anything 25 FPS or higher is 100% fine and I'll be enjoying my time. I never play competitive online shooter games ever, though. All single player ones like GOW and the likes. I game on a 60 Hz 4k monitor. GPU is AMD RX 6600 alongside Ryzen 7 5700G and 32GB RAM. My games are set to meduim most of the time at 4k. Demanding titles are on low. Surprisingly, GOW and GOW Ragnarok are both set to ultra and I still get around 40ish FPS.

Someone remaked Super Mario World in 3D in Unreal Engine 5 (no realistic graphics). The video explains what he did and its super interesting and entertaining to watch. However, there is nothing playable right now. And even if there was one, Nintendo would be fast to remove it. I hope he will publish a finished work as Open Source project, so it will live on forever.

The game was launched in 2019 so instead of fixing the bug they just pulled it from the store. Refunds only for who bought the DLC up to ~~3 weeks~~ 1 year ago. Sucks to be a paying user.

Edit: LOL I thought it was still 2024

Are we? Seems like GPUs are not available on launch, or even after a long while. Scalpers are at it again. Should I not wait and look into the used market?

Infinite shoe durability does what it says on the shoebox - disabling the wear and tear Henry accumulates on his footwear while gallivanting around the Bohemian wilderness, and so eliminating the need to replace or repair his favourite pair. To me, this is both a little baffling (again, surely you play a game like KC:D II for this kind of frictive minutiae), but also very funny, simply because I find the idea of infinite shoes very funny.

Trans Rights are under assault all across the United States as the new administration continues a brutal project of oppression, exclusion, and denial of care to people everywhere.

Distribute Aid is developing a network of supply chains, medical aid, distribution partners and kit development across 11 states that aims to provide direct care and medical support to thousands of trans people, with the goal of scaling up to cover the rest of the country during 2025.

100% of the proceeds of this bundle go directly toward Distribute Aid's efforts to supply kits of 1 year's necessary medical equipment into the hands of trans people in needs for free.

Each kit comes with a sharps container and enough syringes, needles, bandages, and alcohol wipes to last a year. For people living in states where it’s difficult to access syringes and needles, this will help reduce needle reusing and sharing.

If you aren’t interested in the games and prefer to donate to the campaign directly, you can do that here.

It's not a big message, so I copied it here over. To me it is notable that they specifically address a Linux Gaming distribution called Bazzite, to correct a bug/mistake on it caused by the game. This note is also under the "General" headline, so they take it serious. I am really really happy about this.

Greetings, Rivals!

We're thrilled to announce that the upcoming patch drops on February 13, 2025, at 09: 00: 00 (UTC+0)! This update will also be applied without server downtime—so you can dive right back into your epic battles as soon as the update is live!

Here's a look at what's coming in this patch:

All-New Costumes

Mister Fantastic & Invisible Woman - 60th Wedding Anniversary Combo Bundle (Store release: 2025/02/14 02: 00: 00 UTC+0)

Mister Fantastic - The Life Fantastic (Store release: 2025/02/14 02: 00: 00 UTC+0)

Invisible Woman - The Life Fantastic (Store release: 2025/02/14 02: 00: 00 UTC+0)

Bug Fixes

All Platforms

General

  1. High-end computers running the Bazzite (Linux) system were mistakenly tapping into low-quality UI resources. Fear not—this issue has been rm'd!

Maps and Gameplay

  1. Resolved an issue where if you scored KOs during overtime and the battle concluded at that moment, the KDA tab might not have shown its true colors. Now every victory is honored!
  2. Corrected an issue where the Yggdrasill Path cart icon in the Convoy tutorial was a bit off-target. Your heroic journey can now continue with clarity!
  3. A heroic sweep has been performed to fix various map collisions that could trap players or allow them to slip through walls unexpectedly. Your path to glory is now cleared!

Hero Bug Fixes

  1. Doctor Strange's Portal Power: Fixed an issue where Doctor Strange's portal could be interrupted during the placement phase if an allied Loki transformed into him. The Sorcerer Supreme's magic now flows uninterrupted!
  2. Jeff the Land Shark's Bubble Trouble: Resolved a quirky situation where Jeff's bubbles could, in rare instances, sneak past enemy healing gates into the spawn room. No more bubble bath break-ins!
  3. Iron Man's "Armless" Attack: Addressed a tech malfunction where Iron Man's arm models could go missing after activating Armor Overdrive in certain rare scenarios. The suit's back in action—fully equipped to blast into battle!
  4. Hulk & Wolverine's Team-Up Trouble: Fixed a little mischief where because of their Team-Up Ability, Wolverine's Berserk Claw Strike could, under certain situations, be activated during Feral Leap. Now, there will be no more mix-ups!
  5. Hulk's Charge Hiccup: Resolved a Team-Up Ability bug where if Hulk was hit by Namor's ultimate when charging to throw Wolverine, he wouldn't be thrown afterward. Now, the power duo can deliver a one-two punch without any interruptions—Hulk smash, Wolverine slash!
