I don't understand why the exhaust fan was "ineffective at eliminating" the emissions. I would have liked some discussion on that

This is harder to find now, but a good optician can fit your glasses to your face, know what adjustments are necessary just by looking, and determine all the lens parameters beyond the prescription. I can come in and without even describing the issue, my optician can fix my glasses.

This could be answered with a huge chunk of the Dreamcast library: Chuchu Rocket, Mr. Driller, Crazy Taxi, Space Channel 5, Samba de Amigo,...

The Dreamcast was amazing at arcade games (games you can start playing fast), and with unique and incredible style. The whole platform was truly innovative and ahead of its time.

A theory: Biden and the DNC do not want to risk a primary process that could result in the nominee being Sanders or AOC, which could happen if Biden announced he was not going to run for reelection. So, he is officially running for reelection (still/ for now) and thus suppressing an open primary. However, if he were to step back from running late, Newsom's actions like this one would position him as a consensus nominee.

A hiccup in this theory is that usually, Harris as VP would be POTUS's successor (and she would be automatically, if anything happened after the convention). Harris could be positioned better as a next CA governor or maybe even VP again. However, the scope of her popularity is not all that high. Newsom and she could make a deal of some sort.

This article was a thrill to read. I had no idea that any clothing designed in the software could be printed out onto specialized fabric paper so it could be worn on the doll in real life! Plus the software rendered 3D models of any design quickly on home computers of the time! This is incredible stuff from a technical accomplishment standpoint. I'm glad they're getting recognition in museums; well deserved

I used to for a local news site, but they disabled them to encourage people to install their app instead 🙄

Overall, the feature is overused and too easily tricks users into enabling notifications for sites they only visited because of a web search result.

Notifications are useful for periodic, high quality information that is meaningful to the user.

I wrote the mod about this too just now. The community is marked NSFW for some reason, so unless show NSFW is configured in your account settings, it won't show.

I'm thinking it could pass, since the ballot language is biased and misleading ("elevate"). Plus, as school is out of session, so it would be hard to mobilize college students to vote.

Does anyone have insight on the strength of the 'no' campaign?

Similar to the OP, the one I would settle on is Dance Central 2 for Kinect. The music is great, the dancing is great, and the controls are singular (your body is the controller).

For a more conventional choice, I'd say Beyond Good and Evil. The story and world are immersive and novel, and the stealth gameplay is also really fun.

From the user perspective, they're great. They're safer as they are sandboxed in the browser (correct me if I'm mistaken). They load really fast. They cooperate with ad blockers. They can provide notifications. You can also use them for a lot of things, even games: e.g. https://frvr.com/

Sometimes, mobile web is far better than the app. For example, searches in the Target app takes ages. I have target.com/cart installed as a home screen shortcut, and it's so much better.

I don't know why apps are so promoted. It could be user expectation (they expect to need to install an app to use a service); businesses thinking that apps are part of marketing (app store as billboard); or maybe businesses get a lot more telemetry from apps (trackers). Typically, when it comes to features, IMHO the ones that require app installation from a technical standpoint are not worth it (e.g. AR).

My biggest frustration with copyright is in situations when the item is out of print or rights owned by an entity that has dissolved. There really should be a way to republish such works without waiting many decades for it to be in public domain.

I used to not tip for takeout (since I had thought there was not really "service"), but I've since learned that the packaging for take away can be rather involved. So, I do tip now for the labor of readying the meals to go

They didn't even really need need to make a better app to make more money. If the objective is getting the telemetry for ads by forcing the use of the official app, they could have the equivalent just via APIs and user-specific tokens. The backend would be key, and it would take advantage of an established app market. They could additionally monetize the API, if they approached it more reasonably. They could have the data and have developers pay a toll. Maybe hindsight is 20/20, but the animus they're displaying here is self-defeating.
