I'm currently on Connect for Lemmy and I mostly like it but it's buggy (new app so I'll be forgiving - but once you search for something you can't back out unless you close the app). Summit is fine but there's no way to see your profile and jerboa doesn't seem to have a way to log in.

I know it's early days but are there any other well rounded apps I should try?

Edit: I'm a dummy, in Jerboa there is a down Caret next to "anonymous" at the top on the slide out menu. That's how you log in

I've tried Jerboa (which was super crashy on my phone for some reason) and right now I'm using wefwef.app, which is more stable but still isn't quite what I wanted, as a former BaconReader person. For one thing, when I try sorting things in different ways (like by "new" or by "hot") it seems to stick to the exact posts I was just looking at.

I'll be watching this comment thread with interest.

I'm using Jerboa and it works great, according to a lower comment they also used to have issues but don't anymore, maybe give it another shot πŸ‘πŸ™‚

[–] YourHeroes4Ghosts 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I was still having issues yesterday- after updates- which is when I grabbed wefwef. I suspect my phone is the problem, but I'm not going to be replacing my phone anytime soon, so I need something that works for me.

[–] StantonVitales 3 points 2 years ago

Oh damn, sorry m8. Glad you found one that works anyways πŸ‘πŸ€˜

[–] bipmi 3 points 2 years ago

Some jerboa users are having issues if theyre part of a particularly large instance. that being said, here in beehaw Ive had a few issues here and there but its worked pretty well most of the time. Ymmv of course

[–] nlm 9 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I bounce between the web and Jerboa at the moment.

I'm logged in with Jerboa though, what happens when you try?

[–] Idrunkenlysignedup 5 points 2 years ago (2 children)

How do you even log in? I haven't found an intuitive way to do that. It's very possible I'm a dummy and missing something that just isn't obvious to me.

[–] nlm 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Hamburger menu in the top left, then click on whatever it says in the new top left (I'm already logged in so it currently shows my username). I think it says anonymous?

[–] Idrunkenlysignedup 8 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Edited my post. You know what they say - make something idiot proof, they'll make a better idiot

[–] nlm 4 points 2 years ago

It's always nice to be good at something! :D

[–] Idrunkenlysignedup 4 points 2 years ago

Omg I didn't see that down caret next to the "anonymous" in the slide out menu.

Dummy status: confirmed

[–] VoormaligLurker@feddit.nl 8 points 2 years ago

I use wefwef, which is a progressive web app @ https://wefwef.app you can add it to your homescreen. So far it seems fairly nice.

[–] Lionir 7 points 2 years ago

I jump between a few at the moment.

I think Thunder could be good but it lacks a bit of the features. Wefwef is more developed and I really like how it feels. Ultimately, I use the Beehaw PWA quite a bit because I need to handle mod reports and applications to Beehaw.

[–] sloonark@lemm.ee 7 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I tried about five different apps and Liftoff seems the best to me.

[–] TheLastOfHisName 6 points 2 years ago

I use Liftoff as well. Works well on my android phone.

[–] Suck_on_my_Presence 1 points 2 years ago

Sorry, this is an absolute noob question - how do you connect to Beehaw from Liftoff?

[–] ByteSorcerer 6 points 2 years ago

I use Jerboa. It was unstable at first, but it seems to work great since Beehaw got updated to the newer version of Lemmy.

[–] lemor 6 points 2 years ago
[–] Whimseymimple 6 points 2 years ago

I'm currently preferring either the mobile web or Liftoff. Liftoff has really surprised me with how slick and easy it's been to jump onto. I still have Jerboa on my phone to see how it progresses over time.

[–] Plume 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

So far... none. I just use Beehaw as a PWA on my phone.

[–] YourHeroes4Ghosts 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

There is a Beehaw-specific PWA? Or do you mean wefwef.app, or are you just accessing Beehaw through your browser? Newbie to PWAs here, would love an alternative to wefwef.

[–] Plume 5 points 2 years ago (2 children)

There is a Beehaw-specific PWA?

There is. :)

Go to Beehaw.org and... there you go. You can install it. :)

[–] YourHeroes4Ghosts 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Sorry for the second reply- the Beehaw APW looks a lot better than wefwef to me, but it seems I can't post comments, nor do I remain logged in between uses. Is this another "my stupid phone" problem?

[–] Plume 3 points 2 years ago

Could be your phone.

Don't know if that'll help, but I am running it on a Pixel 4a, running GrapheneOS. I'm using Vanadium as my browser from which I made the PWA, which is basically a hardened Chromium.

[–] YourHeroes4Ghosts 2 points 2 years ago

Thanks for that, trying it out now!

[–] Vestria 6 points 2 years ago

Using Jerboa while I wait for Sync to finish migrating. Took me about a day to figure out how to log in. The other apps either don't work, period, or don't work for me as a user.

The Sync update can't come soon enough.

[–] Ignacio 5 points 2 years ago

I'm using Liftoff while I'm waiting for Beyond to be available. But most of the time I browse Lemmy/Kbin on my PC browser.

[–] Megaman_EXE 5 points 2 years ago

I'm currently using wefwef and I'm waiting for boost for lemmy. I wanted to see the difference between boost and reddit desktop today and it's just not great. I took boost for granted.

[–] termus 4 points 2 years ago

If I'm on my phone I just browse within Firefox. 98% of my browsing is through Firefox on my desktop PC. Both methods are fine and I haven't really ran into issues.

[–] Ooklamok 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Has anyone found an app that "slides" between posts (swipe left and right to goto next/previous post)? Baconit and Slide has this feature and I miss it.

[–] tiago 2 points 2 years ago

Not yet, but it's a feature I really liked to jump into the conversations

[–] Pluto@reddthat.com 3 points 2 years ago
[–] Foidi 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I use Jeroba, as it feel the most polished for me. In other apps I had some errors and really noticable sync problem, as I didnt see my comments and stuff, but they were indeed posted

[–] Foidi 1 points 2 years ago

But from reading comments Ill try liftoff also and see which one is better for me

[–] Duchess@yiffit.net 3 points 2 years ago

jerboa is just fine for me, turns out the issues i was encountering was due to me being part of a huge instance rather than anything to do with the app itself.

[–] Rentlar 3 points 2 years ago

I use Jerboa. It had a rough time during the update to Lemmy v.18, but the Jerboa v.38 fixes a lot of the issues, in no small part thanks to MV's fixes

[–] Crankpork 2 points 2 years ago

I’m really liking Memmy on iOS. It just made it out of TestFlight and into the App Store.

[–] sleepybisexual 2 points 2 years ago

Jerboa sucked so now I'm on liftoff and thunder

[–] wheeville 2 points 2 years ago

I'm using Connect. It has crashed a few times but overall has worked fine. It reminds me of Rif. I'll check out Boost once it's available.

[–] TimTheEnchanter 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I’m using Memmy on iOS. It’s a little buggy here and there and there are some features that I would like to see, but I figure most of these apps are still in the early stages and will be developed more.

Anyone have any suggestions for iOS apps that I should try?

[–] ExoMonk 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I’ve been using Mlem for the last week or so. It might still be in test flight but it’s been pretty good so far.

[–] TimTheEnchanter 1 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

I’ve heard of that one. Looks like the beta is full, so I’ll have to try it out when it releases.

[–] CrispyPeach 1 points 2 years ago

I'm using wefwef until Sync drops for Lemmy. It's pretty good, especially for a non native app.

[–] fl1ghtless 1 points 2 years ago

Android User here. I was using Jerboa but over the last month, it just stopped loading posts at all. I've been trying liftoff but it pulls a ton of duplicate posts. Also, I have tried logging in with a 4th account and it just hangs trying to add it. So I just use the individual Lemmy communities as a shortcut now.

[–] gaael 1 points 2 years ago

I alternate between Liftoff and Jerboa, currently liking the Liftoff UX a bit better.

[–] TheGiantKorean 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Connect is still buggy, but it's improved a lot. I can see the developer making frequent updates.

[–] daveyeah 1 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

Have you found a way to load up a specific community without having a post from that community to navigate from? Like, I want to do the Connect version of typing "reddit.com/r/Ooer" in my URL. It's been driving me crazy; I ended up going back to Jerboa because of this one thing.

[–] TheGiantKorean 1 points 2 years ago

I haven't. When I do a search in the search bar on the left, I would expect it to pull up communities, but it doesn't seem to.
