Generally depressing societal news.

I strongly disagree with the premise of this article, that it's a tough choice. Appeasement doesn't work. Target pulling merch just tells the domestic terrorists that threats work.

The unfortunate reality is the threat or actual use of violence is what they listen to.

The irony that we never here of the scale of violence for Left causes like this never seems to be found but ya know "both sides". 👀

I'm pretty sure BLM razed Chicago to the ground a couple years ago. Not sure why folks who used to live in the area keep pretending it isn't a smoking crater.

As someone in Seattle during CHOP/CHAZ, if it's anything like that, you and everyone saying 'raised to the ground' is full of shit.

Sorry, I thought my intense sarcasm was clear, it's absolutely a bullshit story.

Unfortunately, in my experience, people say it with a straight face! My family from the South was in a tizzy and I was like "its only a block and the people who started it got chased out by small gangs and groups who saw an opportunity and used violence. No one is being held hostage!"

Ironically, they would have opposed any financial relief for the area, too. -_-

Did they at least believe you when you told them everything was fine, or are they too far gone?

Eh I was dealing with an elderly family member who was weirdly panicked, but not enough to actually care or listen? They're old and I have let it go, but as I tried to explain she just wandered off to another topic.

It's one reason I don't tend to debate anymore, just make sure to say my opinion so lurkers don't think loud people are all that exists.

The absolute number of people who have already decided and them asking questions is just the lead into them going into an unhinged rant about the deep state is too damn high...

Anyway thanks for clarifying, I should remember I am on beehaw and not the REST of the internet right now. 😂

No worries, I knew I was taking a risk trying to satirize that nonsense, and I'm sorry for upsetting you.

You actually made my day, I want to go back to assuming the best and you reminded me to do that. Thanks, thanks for the apology. Sucks to live in such a surreal world, glad to know I'm not alone in it with (some) sanity! 😁

Well, yeah, threats do work. Because enough domestic terrorists have followed through with them in the last ten years that taking them seriously must be part of the threat model.

The Target thing wasn't a boycott, the merch got moved or pulled because a group of people were using the threat of violence and other intimidation tactics to achieve political goals.

Republican is just another word for domestic terrorist at this point.

Always has been, we just got fooled that "tradition" meant "act in the rules of engagement and civility" instead of what it is: "Ooga ooga, I bonk, head empty" like they're finally showing.

We got the most change when we had the most bricks unfortunately...

The truth is the Right goes to violence first, but the Nazi's didn't get to win last time and I hope so again.
