10% luck, 20% skill, 15% concentrated power of will, 5% pleasure, 50% pain, 100% reason to remember the name - Aardwolf!

Find yourself someone who loves you as much as aardwoof loves aardwolves ❤️

That thing looks like it's either chill as fuck or a complete spaz. I'm not sure which...

[–] SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 4 days ago

Both in varying frequencies

[–] Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 5 days ago

Ah yes, hair metal dog

I love this critter

[–] queermunist@lemmy.ml 12 points 5 days ago

Eats insects, apparently.

I am assuming it is not in fact actually closely related to a wolf/dog?

Also, this has got me very curious what just a "vark" looks like given the suggested naming scheme going on here.

[–] abbadon420@lemm.ee 19 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Both names come from Afrikaans, but the animals are not in any way related. The aardwolf is related to the hyena. It's the hyenas friendly cousin. It mostly eats termites and it's not dangerous. The aardvark lmhas a pig like nose and it burrows like a pig, so "vark" means pig in Afrikaans. The aardvark has no other relation to a pig besides the name.

ah, so "vark" is much like "dog" in english when it is used in animal names like "prairie dog"!

thanks for explaining!

I was gonna say "pig-wolf" sounds kind of goofy but it is actually pretty precise in behavioral desciption then isn't it?

Should be noted that "aard" means "ground/earth"

...by contrast to airwolf...

[–] flora_explora 1 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Interesting, doesn't ard also mean "ground/earth" in Arabic? Maybe one of those words that made into the indo-german languages by the Arabic conquest?

That captive aardwolf is scared though. They're not ordinarily puffed up like this. A chill aardwolf is a smooth, slender boi.

[–] Deceptichum@quokk.au 3 points 5 days ago

Those are some hackles.

[–] Ephera@lemmy.ml 3 points 5 days ago

Damn, this guy looks like he's about to sing an 80s power ballad.

[–] inv3r5ion@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 5 days ago

That Mohawk is fucking sick

[–] selokichtli@lemmy.ml 2 points 4 days ago
