I just want to second the GV-USB2, it's a nifty little device. I've used it to back up multiple home videos from VHS. The only thing is (at least this was the case when I bought my GV-USB2) all the instructions to activate it are in Chinese, you have to find a tutorial online if you can't read Chinese. But there's plenty of resources for you to take advantage of. Once you have it set up it's essentially plug and play.

My comment was supposed to be kind of wink wink tongue in cheek in tone, I'm sure that didn't come across.

I'm sorry for poking at fresh wounds. I lost my best friend too, many years ago. He was only 21, but there's no such thing as "old enough" because life is too short. And there's not enough time in this life to truly move on from something like that. There's nothing else I can say, I just hope you're doing well bud

Jeff Buckley, no question. He released arguably the best album of the 90s (Grace) then went and fucking drowned. Only 30 years old. He coulda been one of the best to ever do it, but we're left wondering.

As someone who is the stupid ~~party~~ stoner friend to a big friend group of (mostly) tech bros, this list is pretty hilarious to read from the other side.

Also fuck you for saying I'm gonna die young.

The Tetris Effect by Dan Ackerman is a lot of fun, a pretty breezy read, and is fairly unbelievable for how true the story is. It involves (in varying amounts) programming, science, and DIY, mostly from an early-80s perspective (since a lot of it is about the development of the game), plus some corporate espionage and Soviet meddling.

I was only drinking a cup of coffee a day

Yaaaaaaawn. Let us know when you need an entire pot just to go to bed. No wonder you had such an easy time "quitting" lol

Try Fern's season! You don't have to watch any of the seasons in order, they all exist in a vacuum. And it's all on YouTube! I say give S14 E1 a shot and see how you like it :)

Loved her on Taskmaster. "Have I met these potatoes before?!"

Between herself, John Kearns, and Munya, that season was a goldmine for 'comedians I had never heard of before and ended up loving'.

Episodes (starring Matt LeBlanc as himself) is very much up this alley. It's a show about two British TV writers adapting their big BBC hit for American TV. It's also one of the more underrated shows out there, I don't see a lot of people talking about it and frankly it's excellent.

As someone who lives in a wood-heated house, what do you suggest I do? I'd rather not freeze to death and I can't afford any other heating options

I don't know if I ever came to terms with it, the thought of one day not existing has always brought me a level of deep comfort. Maybe try looking at it as a good thing instead of a bad thing.

I like Bo Burnham's titles (both from the song Rant):

"The Blue-balled Anti-masturbator" and "The Great All-loving F*ggot-hater"

Edit: the instance removed the hate speech (which I was simply quoting and don't condone) so I censored it

I'm in my 30s so I should be used to this by now, but this shit is getting so stressful guys. I have no savings, my checking account is drained every month with rent, and if there's ever a serious emergency I have no safety net, I'm legitimately fucked. I'm one unplanned expense away from absolute ruin. Those in the same boat as me, how do you deal with this?
