Just finished Alone Together, by Sherry Turkle.

It's a book that dives into our relationship with technology, and each other. It's a decent read for these times we are living, although the author didn't get to live the massification of social media before writing it.

It dives into how we turn to machines to fullfil our connection needs, while avoiding the disappointments of connecting with other humans. It showcases a bunch of stories to illustrate its point, as usual for non-fiction books, but I felt it gave good nuances to the point, and even identified a little with some scenarios. She goes just a little overboard with how little she thinks about online communities, and I feel she doesn't state very clearly that communities online doesn't have to be the same as communities in real life. My opinion diverges from what related to that assumption, but it was a great read overall!

Pattern Recognition, William Gibson.

Gibson is tough to get into, personally, but his stories are very cool!

I find the best moments to be during breakfast with a cup or two of coffee, and before bed.

Where I live access to books is either through Kindle or Paperback, and my wife has rights over the bookshelf, so I stick to the kindle.

I have always been a lurker on reddit and most social media, but Lemmy does make me want to contribute with posting and commenting.

One thing I miss and intend to build as I get more time is indexes and big posts I saw in subreddits of my interest, it would be a good thing to start migrating to Lemmy, for example.

Well, it's not that hard to actually self-publish via Amazon, Lulu or IngramSpark for example, but getting your work distributed is another story. However, that's an issue with any platform as far as I'm aware of.

Now, the most obvious one is to start a blog, and you can do that with https://paper.wf for example! Which is a federated blogging solution.

Some options you have are:

  • Wattpad
  • Writers workshop (Local workshops are best)
  • Royal Road (Mostly focused by LitRPG fans)
  • If you are writing short stories or novellas, you can look for magazines that accept submissions in your genre, but I take that's what you are trying to avoid.
  • If your work involves blogging/journalism or non-fiction in general, I'd recommend Substack and Medium as well, just beware that the monetization format can create an annoying culture.

And you can post here as well! :)

Jerboa, on the other hand, can't sort inside comments, can it? That has been a nuisance as well.

I've been itching to play the base game since release, despite the bugs.

I might finally bite the bullet get a rig that can play it. I may even convince myself to get the Steam Deck for it!

Does the base game currently run smoothly on the Deck?
