Age of Mythology. It's an RTS game from maybe 20 years ago, although there's a remastered edition that's less than a year old. I played the original version and the story and gameplay are both really fun. The controls definitely feel dated and clunky to me now though. I've not played the new version but I expect it's good too.

Specifically, you can play as Norse, Egyptians and Greeks with three main gods and nine(?) minor gods from each pantheon. You build up your civilization / town over several ages, managing your resource gathering and armies. Each age unlocks a new god with a new god power. Each god also has different mythical monsters that you can create such as jackals, hydras, wolves, etc. The original also had Chinese and Atlantians (Greek titans) as DLC, I don't know if they exist in the new version

Kind of a weird question IMO. I don't even think animal lives are worth the same as animal lives. Is a single deer's life the same as a single ant's life?

I consider myself to be kind and thoughtful towards people and animals -- I'll save snails or worms that I find while gardening, but I also will kill mosquitos that are inside my house, and move spiders outside where they will potentially die.

This isn't even getting into "special" animals like pets

If 90% of the population call them seagulls, and 99% of the population understand what you mean when you say "seagull", then yes, they are actually called seagulls

I've witnessed a European badger stand up to a golden retriever much bigger than it barking and growling aggressively in its face and the badger stood its ground. I don't know if it was too scared to turn away or if it genuinely wanted to fight, but it was brave AF either way. (also I've never seen such a clean badger, but tbf most examples I see are dead on the road :/ )

I misread the community name first time I saw it and now I can't get that name out of my head

The AskLemmyNSFW "what dirty fun have you been up to" is really nice. Thanks, DazedAndConfused :)

Americans are insane. I don't want to stereotype, but who the fuck needs a burger the size of a car?

Police said the driver was operating the vehicle erratically; running red lights, weaving through traffic, and hitting speeds around 90 km/h in the downtown core.

It might have been the noise nuisance at 1am that started this, but it was the dangerous driving that led to the arrest.

I've no love for the police as an institution, but surely someone being obnoxiously loud when people are trying to sleep and then endangering others with their driving is not a hero either

The pertinent ruling is apparently

608.2g: If an effect gives a player the option to pay mana, they may activate mana abilities before taking that action. If an effect specifically instructs or allows a player to cast a spell during resolution, they do so by following the steps in rules 601.2a-i, except no player receives priority after it's cast. That spell becomes the topmost object on the stack, and the currently resolving spell or ability continues to resolve, which may include casting other spells this way. No other spells can normally be cast and no other abilities can normally be activated during resolution.

EDIT: the above rule is why you can cast spells with Gix. There's a ruling on Xanathar that says "Xanathar doesn't change when you can cast spells [...] You must still follow all normal timing rules"
