The important story is buried in the middle of the article. This is another example of “think of the children” used to build censorship tools that will likely be later used in other ways.

I just don't get it. People need to understand that there is no way to verify age and have privacy. Want your kids to not access porn online? Parent them, control their online presence by talking to them, be a good parent. The state cannot parent your kids for you, this will only lead to us to a totalitarian state.
It also makes it more dangerous for kids because when they can't access moderated legal porn then they'll go to communities that exist to avoid censorship which of course are likely to contain far worse stuff and possibly involve communication with far worse people.
Or just accept that kids -at least boys- will watch porn after hitting puberty. Stopping that requires crazy helicopter parenting I think.
I always find it so interesting all of the division points we just accept between male and female like it is the most normal thing in the world. Like imagine if your comment had been about pretty much any other division in humanity and porn and it sounds so funny.
"Or just accept that kids -at least red heads- will watch porn after hitting puberty."
Maybe I overuse this, but if you can't comfortably slide other groups into your statement generalizing the human experience I try not to say it. What are your thoughts on that idea?
I don't know, I feel like this is more of a response to how controlled everything is. We've had a lot of breakthroughs with decriminalization of drug use and progress on race, gender, and sexuality issues in tge last decade. But we have never controlled, or historically cared at all about children. There were so many homeless kids in New York like 60-80 years ago they would just throw them on adoption trains to travel the country and try to get adopted, by force, even if they had a family.
Overall I think a lot of people who were raised in abusive homes think we could check I'm on families more. But historically this was a job for the church, not that they did a good job...
Sadly, that's what some of these parents want it seems. Or they're at least willing to take the totalitarian state in exchange for other things they want/wanted.
@BrikoX Blocking is pointless. VPNs will get around the blocks. Parents should control online access for their kids, the tools to do that already exist.
The politicians and busybodies making or pushing these laws aren't tech savvy enough to use VPNs
