This guy sets the bar for homemade science! Really interesting watch, thank you for sharing.

That was super interesting. I never thought about spheres being able to pack in together like that. Or being able to make them yourself! Thanks for sharing.
Yeah, that was one of those Duh Moments that changed the way I think about spheres. So cool.
Yes nice, sky cooling is interesting.
Other fun fact is that most white paints are not actually white but have absorbers in them because to have true white paint it has to be very thick. People do not want to have to put on and pay for a ton of coats. So most people never see true white paint. True white is very specialized.
Once had the chance to compare 3 brands of 'pure' but still commercial white, and side-by-side differences were pretty impressive. The whitest looked distinctly blue in comparison. My favorite "whiter than white" trick is the fluorescent brighteners in laundry detergent. Absorb ultraviolet, emit blue, and give the impression of bright white.
Interesting stuff. Maybe covered in your earlier video, but what do you see as some of the immediate applications? I know the poultry industry struggles to keep their stock cool during the Summer and this seems like a great potential solution.
Just want to make clear it's not my video. Just found it really informative and well done. I didn't even have the patience to watch it at 1x speed, let alone do all the work. Epitomizes what I think of as citizen science, and I don't know where that belongs in the lemmyverse. DIY seemed as good as any.
Chicken coop roofs are a good idea. Car window screens, maybe, depending on whether the windshield would just reflect the heat back into the car. Maybe dyeing a fabric to make an awning or umbrella, although I don't think that would need the crystal size control.
Damn all the testing he has done for this video. Very impressive.
