Is Jerboa for Lemmy crashing for anyone else?

I've been using Jerboa for Lemmy for my Beehaw account since the Migration. At first it worked fine. Then I started getting an error message about the version of Lemmy being used on the instance. But for the last couple of days it has been crashing immediately on opening:

Jerboa Error Message

Is anyone else having this problem? Can anyone recommend an alternative app?

Thanks!

Switched to liftoff and continue enjoying fediverse.

But I'm not on beehaw.

I switched to Liftoff from Jerboa, and am enjoying the Liftoff experience thus far. Works with Beehaw just fine.

I'm on Beehaw and can confirm that Liftoff is already miles ahead of Jerboa.

Trying connect for lemmy at the moment... but I'll add that to my list until I settle on my preferred mobile experience... thanks!

Thanks for the recommendation. Have just installed and connected back to Beehaw.

Liftoff is great! Thanks for commenting about it. I was really frustrated with Jerboa for not even allowing me to log in to Beehaw, and Connect's really bad interface that makes it hard to read anything.

Liftoff feels great. If this keeps getting features, I dont see myself switching.

Dev is killing it

[–] kanathan 2 points 2 years ago

Oh, nice! Jerboa and Connect were both OK, but each were missing a few features that I wanted. I'm really liking Liftoff so far.

Yup Jerboa became very unstable so I switched to Connect for Lemmy. Smooth ride now. :)

[–] kuro_neko@lemmy.ca 9 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Glad you're enjoying Connect!

[–] PurpleTentacle 4 points 2 years ago

I'm enjoying it, too. The only thing that annoys me is how hard/hidden it is to subscribe to communities.

When I'm seeing an interesting community under top of interesting content from a community I might be interested in, it's such a chore to find a subscribe button.

[–] Sharkapotamus 1 points 2 years ago

Second this - I had the same issue so switched to Connect and it's working great. Fairly similar UI and I'll probably just stick with it now.

[–] grumbul 10 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Jerboa started crashing for me around the time they did an update that required a newer lemmy version. I've been using Liftoff and that's working pretty well so far. I'm trying to stay open to different apps because they're all pretty new and none that I've tried have been exactly what I'm looking for yet.

Yep, I'm using wefwef.app now, which is also very nice. Still have Jerboa installed for when it'll be compatible with beehaw again.

[–] furrowsofar 8 points 2 years ago

Yes. I switched to Connect for Lemmy on Google Play for now. That app seems to work fine. Not sure it is FOSS though. Seemed the most popular too other than Jerboa.

[–] 0xCAFE@feddit.de 8 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Deleting storage and cache (both) worked for me.

[–] leds@feddit.dk 1 points 2 years ago

Yes thanks that worked!

F-Droid has previous versions, in case anyone needs to downgrade.

[–] StringPotatoTheory 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The most recent jerboa version doesn't work with lemmy version 17 anymore (which beehaw is on). I had the error and crash happen too. You could download a previous version off their github and it should work with v17 instances (but probably not v18).

But I'd recommend liftoff, it was recently added to the play store and it's actively being worked on! It's the app I use and I've been enjoying it so far.

Did they HAVE to go with that post for the Liftoff screenshots? 😂

Edit: They even used it inside the app as a preview on the Post Style prefs! It's very much deliberate! 😂

[–] 0x4E4F@lemmy.fmhy.ml 5 points 2 years ago

OMG, just noticed 🤣🤣🤣.

Hello from Liftoff! Seems to work well so far

[–] godless@latte.isnot.coffee 6 points 2 years ago (4 children)

Yep. Every update breaks something new, and they never fix the old issues. I've now switched over to Liftoff, until Sync becomes available. From that point onward I won't be needing anything else.

it's been crashing ever since that version error message started appearing. I have since uninstalled it and am just accessing beehaw using my mobile browser. It's actually pretty good. Sure I know there are other apps in development but I would like them to mature a bit more before I try to get into them, especially considering my buggy experience with jerboa.

[–] cavemeat 5 points 2 years ago

I just switched to thunder, and so far its working much better.

[–] balls_expert@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 2 years ago

Yep crashes upon opening it today

[–] HeyLow@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 years ago

Haven't had any issues with crashing on Jerboa 0.0.34 on Android 13

[–] red@feddit.de 4 points 2 years ago

Worked fine until yesterday evening. This morning (i.e. now) it instantly crashes

[–] can 4 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (2 children)

The latest version of Jerboa is crashing on instances that haven't updated to v0.18

This will likely be fixed but there's many alternatives now anyway.

[–] AndrewOz 2 points 2 years ago

I have switched from Jerboa to Connect. Works well straight out of the box.

As @dark_stang@beehaw.org mentioned, the progressive web app works really well. To use it, from any major browser on your phone, open up the options menu and click "install app" or "add to phone." It'll add an "app" to your phone which is actually a slimmed down version of your browser with the address bar and menus and whatnot removed.

[–] can 2 points 2 years ago

There's also an appolo-like alternative webapp.

[–] ryanlovescooljeans 2 points 2 years ago

This is what I just did since last night's Jerboa update means it can't even launch anymore. And while I like Jerboa, this slimmed down web app version of Lemmy is perfect and kind of all I need.

[–] liz1328 3 points 2 years ago

It's crashed twice for me in the past few minutes, which it never has before.

[–] withersailor@aussie.zone 3 points 2 years ago

Jerboa: what version? Server: what version?

Latest Jerboa is 0.37-alpha. Latest server: 0.18.1 (?)

Servers running 0.17 (and below) don't play nicely with Jerboa 0.36 and later.

Jerboa 0.36 had a lot of problems, that 0.37 fixed.

I'm running Jerboa 0.37 and finding it great.

But if you don't like it, try connect, liftoff to thunder or another. I haven't kept track of all the new apps.

The web interface works well to.

[–] MaliciousKebab 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It stopped crashing for me but I can't login because of server version mismatch. I'm using web browser for now.

[–] guero 2 points 2 years ago

that's happened to me as well. I'm now posting from connect for the first time and adjusting to the interface.

[–] Gevian@feddit.de 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Yes, Jerboa crashes instantly, feddit.de Front Page is constantly refreshing (web) , Connect won't show any comments, wefwef cannot block communities from showing in my timeline

Great timing, now that many of us are coming from Reddit...

[–] unknowing8343@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Currently using Liftoff, and Jerboa as a backup for reading inbox, hopefully I can go back to Jerboa soon, as the native Android feel is great.

[–] renard_roux 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

My stack looks like this, in the order I turn them on as the previous one stops working (Android):

(* Update: thanks to other comments here, I just installed wefwef.app, and it seems awesome. Wasn't keen on a web app, but clicking Install App on chrome removes the address bar and such, and it actually feels really cool. List updated!)

  • WefWef.app
  • Thunder
  • Connect
  • Liftoff
  • Jerboa

Really hope Thunder gets more stable soon, it's by far my favorite interface*.

[–] PurpleReign 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Yep, the latest update (version 0.0.37) just crashes within seconds of launching.

[–] 4th_Times_A_Charm@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 years ago

I believe Lemmy updated, I was having issues until I got an update for jerboa.

[–] HERRAX@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 years ago

After updating to the latest version I can't sort my feed in any way, it just directs the feed back to the home instance's feed and sorts by active. Trying out liftoff in the meantime.
