Stardew Valley. Loved to play it on long haul flights, doesn't need Internet.

The good news (for iOS people) is that it’s coming to Apple Arcade in July (for the 10 people that hadn’t bought it yet).
The only mobile game I've spent any amount of time with was You Must Build a Boat. It's a bejeweled clone with dungeon crawling and RPG elements. It's dirt cheap and has no ads or in-app transactions. I wouldn't have it any other way.
Dead Cells! Best mobile port of a PC/Console game I've ever encountered.
Osmos is a wonderful meditative game on iPad.
Ooh I totally forgot this one! Osmos is seriously an amazing game, one of my favorite games of all time.
I’ve put quite some time into Bloons TD 6. Definitely addicting.
mindustry is my fav
it's a crazy good combo of resource management, tower defense, rts, and sandbox creativity
added bonus that it's open source and even has multi-player
I started it on the PC and was pleasantly surprised by the quality. Really fun game!
Had no idea this was on mobile. Can't imagine playing any factory game by tapping alone though
I really like Data Wing. Cool top-down 2D arcade racing game with a cool story, free with no ads. It's obvious a heap of passion was poured into the game. Still my favourite mobile game.
EDIT: I use Android so I'm not sure it's on the Apple Appstore but I don't see why it wouldn't be
Currently on my phone:
- Civilization VI
- Civilization Revolutions 2
- Into The Breach
- Mini Motorways
- Shovel Knight Dig
- Slay the Spire
- Grindstone
[Edited for formatting]
FTL plays great on the iPad
Great game, and sophomore release Into The Breach by the same studio is also available on iPad visa Netflix Games
Slay the Spire has a decent iOS port
I play it on iPad, but have found the touch controls to be a little off (for lack of better description). You'd think that flinging cards should feel great on a touchscreen, but I'm never quite sure if they're going to activate the way that I want.
picross is fun there's gotta be some picross type games on the ios side
I love picross games, but when the puzzle gets to large it's hard to play on phone screens.
20 or 25 squares are the sweet spot for me just for counting and holding-numbers-in-my-head reasons and those play fine on a phone screen. I do have a Note though, and play with the stylus.
As a Final Fantasy fan, I've been buying games on PC instead of mobile when I have the choice, but I just started Final Fantasy Dimensions the other day, which is exclusive to iOS and Android, and I'm having a good time.
Waking Mars! An incredible short sci fi game with a nice story
For reference, this game is only on iOS and PC (Steam/GOG)
Pathos - Nethack Codex, a very playable traditional roguelike based on Nethack.
Unciv, an open-source Civilization V remake.
Shadow fight 2 (paid version) and also The Silent Age (thankfully Google bard reminded me of the name of this game)
These 2 games are by far the best mobile games I played
20 minutes till dawn. You kill stuff and build around your character trying to survive for 20 minutes.
The mobile version of the Talisman board game is quite good and also syncs purchases and achievement progress with the Steam version.
It's an older game, but Puzzle & Dragons has an incredible amount of content and depth.
Juno new origins is a good game, just make sure your ipad doesn't light on fire
Slice and Dice is a very fun strategy rougelike, kind of a mix of DnD and Yhatzee.
Simon Tathams Puzzles is a free (and ad-free) collection of simple puzzle games. Great for mindlessly wasting hours starting into your phone.
Thought I'd throw these in even though they're older. I continue to play them every few years and they still scratch the same itch.
Robotek - strategic turn-based battler with random attack mechanic, campaign has a light story and no paid upgrades are needed to beat it, has online multiplayer
Hexage - classic arcade shooter with weapon variety & leveling, campaign has a decent story but it's not super important/necessary to follow, as difficulty increases it turns more into a bullet hell, has multiple difficultly options
Some other must-plays in my opinion:
- holedown
- Dicey Dungeons
- Mini Metro
- Super Auto Pet
- Smash Hit
- Fancade
- Peggle Blast (don't pay for upgrades, some levels seem impossible but they're not)
I have put more hours than I care to admit into Slay the Spire. I've 100% completed it and still play it daily.
I really loved Data Wing.
Dawncaster is excellent.
Melvor Idle has been fun for a few years now. It’s a Runescape inspired idle game
Harry Potter: Magic awakened Looks to be pay to win, but that hasn't affected me yet. Kind of like Clash Royale
I've been playing Legends of Runeterra on and off as pretty much my only mobile game. It's a tcg like MtG (but without obscene monetisation).
Found myself mostly playing the singleplayer rather than multiplayer though; it's the type of single player where you do "runs" where you collect cards and upgrades.
Worldbox, if you're into world-building and minimalist pixel art.
I tried a lot, but what felt best was emulating Nintendo DS games that could be played entirely with a stylus. Touch friendly so feels native, but also has benefit of not having ads or attempts to up sell you on a bunch of items that has come to plague a lot of mobile games.
I finally got around to emulating Breath of Fire 4, though I restarted to play on the computer since some friends were interested in watching.
Super Auto Pets is the best autobattler I've played on any system.
Legends of Runtera. Probably the most user friendly free to play card game. You don't buy booster packs, you buy the cards you want directly and can get enough recourses by simply playing often.
I have two games installed on my phone:
- Golf on Mars: an infinite zen golfing game. Minimalist, but enjoyable in very short bursts
- Zachtronics Solitaire: a collection of weird solitaire variants. My favorite of the bunch is "Shenzen Solitaire"
In addition to FTL and Slay the Spire, which I've spent hundreds of hours with, I'd also recommend Monster Train and Dicey Dungeons.
World of Goo and Kotor.
