Just thought I'd add that I've found startrek@startrek.website to be great and quite active

[โ€“] thebardingreen@lemmy.starlightkel.xyz 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It's run by the r/startrek and r/daystrominstitute mods.

Not necessarily a good thing...

[โ€“] Azzu@discuss.tchncs.de 9 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I like !dota2@lemmy.world. It has a lot of posts with really high quality and there's lots of discussions happening in the comments.

I wish ๐Ÿ˜ญ I'm so alone

[โ€“] t0fr@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 years ago

Oof sorry to hear that. I used to be so into dota, but I had to put that part of my life behind me

[โ€“] Erk@cdda.social 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Oh hey cool, it looks like jerboa fixed those kind of links now! I can subscribe to your recommendations!

[โ€“] briongloid@aussie.zone 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Lemmy 0.18 was a good update, made communities easier to link, next is posts/comment native linking.

[โ€“] Erk@cdda.social 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Ah yes some of this is definitely Lemmy rather than jerboa, jerboa just stopped a ctd bug stopping certain links so it became a double whammy of goodness.

[โ€“] briongloid@aussie.zone 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Tbh, I felt Jerboa 0.35 was a step back, it no longer applies my profile default sorting on boot.

[โ€“] Erk@cdda.social 3 points 2 years ago

I hadn't noticed that, but almost every change I've found in it is a huge improvement. Like being able to follow community links without a ctd.

I love that we have !futurama@lemmy.world it's one of my favorite shows and kinda makes the loss of reddit a bit easier on tv memeing.

[โ€“] hiroyt@vlemmy.net 6 points 2 years ago

I like !foss@beehaw.org people there have good recommandations.

[โ€“] Evkob@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I'm completely biased, but !bicycles@lemmy.ca has been very decently active!

[โ€“] t0fr@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 years ago

Be biased! I've already joined and have been getting back into cycling this year

[โ€“] rm_dash_r_star@lemm.ee 5 points 2 years ago

I'm liking all the ones I'm subscribed to right now, can't really nail down a favorite. Get a wide array of topics here, I was really pidgeon holed before because I'd get overloaded.

[โ€“] neo@lemmy.comfysnug.space 4 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

!visualnovels@lemmy.comfysnug.space and associates.

disclaimer: im biased since i created that community

Try adding an exclamation mark at the beginning to make it linkable like you could /r/subreddit

!frasier@lemmy.world

[โ€“] Zorro 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yours has the exclamation mark but actually isn't clickable here on jerboa. Weird cause some links are clickable and others aren't

It might be something Jerboa still needs to implement. From what I understand, this was part of the new update to Lemmy. Only servers that have updated have this feature, not all have because they had to temporarily remove captcha. I don't know if it's something to do with jerboa, or the instance you're on but it will eventually become clickable as servers update.

[โ€“] dpunked@feddit.de 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I really like our little boardgame community over at !boardgames@feddit.de

(Of course I am biased)

[โ€“] t0fr@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

You can be biased and promote. I'm already subbed there and have participated. Board games have been so much fun. I need to have people over to play some Wingspan again. And to play some of the Unstable Unicorn games that I haven't tried yet

[โ€“] dpunked@feddit.de 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Still need to get my hands on wingspan but. I heard good things!

[โ€“] t0fr@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 years ago

It's really fun! I love it. You can always try it out on Tabletop Simulator first

Another star trek fan I see. That community is really kicking off out of everything I've seen

[โ€“] klieg2323@lemmy.piperservers.net 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Ehh, old hold off judgment for now. There are some serious concerns about over moderation. I was banned recently for trying to discuss community standards when after making a post from a clickbaity site. Took out someone else too who agreed with me on a different community

[โ€“] t0fr@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Really? The Star Trek community? I can't say I've seen any of that

Yep! Mods have done a good job burying it. Check the modlog, you'll be able to see any moderator action an reasoning for communities you are subscribed to (or maybe that your instance federated to, I'm not exactly sure).

I tried to do a level headed take over at !mildlyinfuriating@lemmy.world encompassing my experience. I'm sure it came across as whiny to some people. We've all got preconceptions of posts calling out mods for overreach so I understand

[โ€“] Sorghum@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 years ago

It's the same mods that ran r/startrek. They're notorious for being ban happy especially if you have anything negative to say about nutrek. They also got other alternative trek subreddits banned for people that didn't want to deal with their moderation. Of all the things I hope to leave over in Reddit are toxic power mods and r/startrek mods are a prime example.

I wouldn't put it past them to defederating any other instance that has a trek community negative towards startrek.website.

[โ€“] MonkeyJunk@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 years ago

Nice, I do like retro gaming and trek!

That's an instance and not a community. But glad there's a Spanish server out there

!selfhosted@lemmy.world is a favorite
