A gaming community free from the hype and oversaturation of current releases, catering to gamers who wait at least 12 months after release to play a game. Whether it's price, waiting for bugs/issues to be patched, DLC to be released, don't meet the system requirements, or just haven't had the time to keep up with the latest releases.

I think we all have these special games, that either never quit our harddrive, or always sit atop the cartridge/disc pile.

Mine are:

  • Zelda: Oracle of Ages

  • Morrowind

  • Nuclear Throne

The first two are my little "madeleines de proust", memory triggering games that are always soothing when feeling down. There's nothing like being called "OUTLANDER" five times while crossing an alleyway in Balmora; really brings a smile to my face!

And Nuclear Throne has reached a point where it's become my peripheral tester; a bit like what Massive Attack's Mezzanine is for audiophiles. I'm embarrassingly bad at it, seldom reaching the titular throne (let's not talk about looping...), but damn, do I love just dumbly shooting everything on sight.

A space of casual discussion for the community, without much constraint for now (aside from the instance's rules, of course).

It's probably too soon to formally start talking about direction or rules for this place, it's merely two days old after all, and we don't know how things will turn after the blackout, but I've been surprised by the number of comments and subscribers; I was envisioning, at best, a few dozen over weeks, not hundreds over days! The talk might come sooner than expected.

In my case, the OG Xbox. The first console I got, so definitely nostalgia tinted feeling. Fable, Dead or Alive and Star Wars Jedi Outcast are probably my most played games on that platform.

I just started playing Curse for the first time the other night, and the gameplay/mechanics have been so much fun. I've tried claws, machete, pistol, and whip so far, but I'd love to hear about which weapon combos or full builds you found the most fun! What all did you like about them?

There's another community already for patient gamers here: !patientgamers@lemmy.ml.

Consider consolidating to just one community to not split our relatively small group.

I've joined both, but will probably be more active at the other.

Is there a better first post than this one?

Now let's patiently wait for it to fill up! (hopefully)
