Home to all things "Mildly Infuriating" Not infuriating, not enraging. Mildly Infuriating. All posts should reflect that.

I want my day mildly ruined, not completely ruined. Please remember to refrain from reposting old content. If you post a post from reddit it is good practice to include a link and credit the OP. I'm not about stealing content!

It's just good to get something in this website for casual viewing whilst refreshing original content is added overtime.

Hello again! You might be sick of me meta posting, but I'll be done soon I swear! You can screenshot this and post it to mildly infuriating. It definitey would fit!

See the brand new community here

So onto the actual post...

The short of it is:

I want to create a community that links to other similar and like-minded communities across the Fediverse. There maybe multiple communities on different instances that do and act with the same purpose. Having knowledge of where and who they are is brilliant.

Why not use the "search" feature? Because it doesn't always work. I've had communities on lemmy.ml that for some reason would not show on world and vice versa. There are still issues with Lemmy that need to be ironed out.

I think having a comprehensive list of communities and similar communities could help.

I'm still figuring things out to be honest. The fediverse is new to me and many others but I want to do my part in growing and helping lemmy to connect to other communities.

ㅤㅤ

I also want to forge a pact between communities that is basically "we won't do anything that might jeopordise the fediverse by sharing community members and like-minded individuals, promoting other communities and offering up advice to those who are just starting out."

We all benefit if the fediverse is adopted by the general masses... but for that to work. You need to make it digestible. You need to foster an environment that people want to post in.

I feel like having a discord server you can help people who are asking "Is there a community for x place" and being able to point them in the right direction.

Practices I'm staunchly opposed to:

  • Brigading other communities to downvote/harass members for the sheer purpose of silencing or killing the community.
  • Removing Posts / Banning people for being members of a community that you feel rivals or competes with your own.
  • Deleting or Removing Posts to Repost to your community as a moderator.
  • Breaking the guidelines enforced by your instance, and allowing for irresponsible posting. -Encouraging harassment, doxing or criminal activities.

If you are a community and owner who would like to join C3 - the Cross Community Coalition: send me a message in DMs. If you would like your community added to the hub but don't want to join the Coalition; send me a dm and i'll just add your community to the hub.

ㅤㅤ At this time I will not be promoting NSFW instances/communities on the discord as I am only a single person and can't reliably verify ages on the discord.

Welcome all to Mildly Infuriating! I'm aware many of us are reddit refugees. Lemmy.world seems to be the best instance that complies with my morals and principles.

I want to help grow this instance. I'm bloody passionate! That said I always want to share that passion and branch out to other communities and encourage a healthy environment.

I would like to recruit moderators, but the moderation is not limited to just mildly infuriating. I have other projects in mind and those are as follows:

LemmyShitpost - For nonsense memes, shitposting and dumb stuff. Made a goofy meme/shitpost? Post it here.

LemmyBeWholesome - for wholesome memes, cute pictures, nice comments. Post those here.

Lemmy Review - For mocking reviews, bad listings, q&as, basically anything and everything related to the wacky world of e-shopping. (not to be confused with Etsy Sellers, which appears to be a more serious community.)

...

With that said. I have rules for moderation and those are as follows:

  1. Uphold the rules in compliance with Lemmy.World.
  2. Ensure that all moderators comply with the rules, corruption, censorship of content and intent to censor content for personal gain will be against the rules of this community.

I have witnessed the following on reddit and I want to discourage such behaviour as it's bad practice and a detriment to the community.

  • Removing/deleting posts from users as a moderator and reposting them.

  • Banning/Removing users due to a personal beef when the user has not been in breach of community rules.

  • Removing/Hiding opnions from other users that disagree with practices/actions made by the community in question. Opinions should be encouraged and listened too.

  • Using information provided by users on the platform to blackmail, harass or engage in unsavoury practices.

  • Allowing users special privildges in exchange for favours/currency or friendships. ...

If you are not disuaded by anything written above. Then you can send me a dm with information on why you would like to join the communities.

...

If you are not interested in becoming a moderator but would like to branch out your community to this one then feel free to post your community below this message.

I am aware I am a human so I may not get it right, but I am open to listening/learning as the fediverse expands over time.

Welcome all new fediverse users! Thanks for taking your time to read this post and thanks for joining the mildly infuriating community in the ongoing fight against social media enshitification!

Recently the local grocery stores have started using "digital only" coupons. These require you to install the app on your phone, create an account and register the coupon in-store to get the price. These apps are usually poorly designed and telemetry hell holes. I was just in a store and going through all this app coupon crap to get some $.99 grapes and notice the houseless person next to me buying food. It dawned on me that he's paying more because he doesn't own a phone. Even if he's only local food card program, we're all paying more because he doesn't have a phone. People without phones just pay more for groceries I guess.

It’s mildly infuriating when you google some specific tech issue and the first result that pops up is a Reddit post. You click on it knowing the answer is there and when the page loads you just see [deleted].

Sorry for the rant.

So, a robin built several nests in my carport, but only laid eggs in one of them, the middle one in the photo. They hatched about nine days ago. As you can see, the mother is not roosting in the middle nest, but that's still where her hatchlings are. You can't see them in the photo, but I saw them moving around in there. Is this normal? Does the mother just need her space or is she confused somehow, perhaps by the repeating joists? Is that why she built multiple nests to begin with?

If there's another community where you think people might know better, please suggest it.

Update: all is well, apparently.
