Home to all things "Mildly Infuriating" Not infuriating, not enraging. Mildly Infuriating. All posts should reflect that.

I want my day mildly ruined, not completely ruined. Please remember to refrain from reposting old content. If you post a post from reddit it is good practice to include a link and credit the OP. I'm not about stealing content!

It's just good to get something in this website for casual viewing whilst refreshing original content is added overtime.

Whilst Lemmy is growing and trying to compete in content against the goliath that is reddit it needs to be reposted so to speak. I'm not about taking original or potentially original posts and claiming them as my own so it's good practice to source the location of the original.

We are competing with a platform that has existed since 2005, it's no easy task. You may find posts that are original posts. Just again best practice. Source the original.

Just credit the reddit user, that's all you need. If anyone really cares they can go to reddit and look at their profile. That way you can still give credit where credit is due, and not increase reddit foot traffic.

[–] LillianVS@lemmy.world 43 points 2 years ago (3 children)

In fairness, I have just been doing this when mildly infuriating was born (5 days ago) and I want to ensure I am doing enough in terms of respecting the original poster. It is a good suggestion though.

I guess a template of "Repost from [username] on [insert website]" would do fine." Good comment!

[–] catboss@feddit.de 30 points 2 years ago

Just wanted to say that I appreciate you trying to give credit in the best way you can think of.

[–] steakfries@lemmy.one 23 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I like how so far it seems people here are less aggressive and more willing to work together towards a goal that satisfies both parties rather than have a big dick swinging contest and get nowhere. Good job Lemmy.

[–] 676@lemmy.ca 9 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I only participate in little dick swinging contests, because I can win those

[–] shankrabbit@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

I can't. :(

[–] c2h6@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

... I heard there were dicks swinging?

[–] isVeryLoud@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 years ago

I can't even access it anyway as the community's gone private.

[–] Loccy@feddit.uk 14 points 2 years ago

This is the way.

[–] CookieJarObserver@feddit.de 9 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Its not a source if its a reddit link.

[–] LillianVS@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I would rather provide a link/credit to where I found it. Unfortunately reddit is a place that incentivises and encourages people to repost without care/credit to the original. It isn't much different to 9gag, or any other website either to be honest.

This is a moral choice but I don't think there is a right answer here. In fighting isn't very productive either way. This is the most I'll probably discuss it here. I'm listening to the advice given to me by @Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works because I think it's a good balance.

I want to make lemmy & the fediverse the best it can be and not follow in the footsteps of other platforms. Reddit specifically but not limited to reddit.

I respect your opinion, but given the context I am using it I disagree.

[–] CookieJarObserver@feddit.de 8 points 2 years ago

I mean you could credit the user

[–] _number8_@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago

might as well steal some bandwidth

[–] stormageddon@lemmy.world 18 points 2 years ago

My first thought is that's crazy and way overboard. My second thought is what have y'all been doing to the bathrooms??

[–] _number8_@lemmy.world 17 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

being an adult now, it's so weird seeing how schools were so overly punitive. why not treat kids decently like in college early on? even in kingergarten i'd understand 'you can use the bathroom now if you want but either way you have to learn the alphabet'

[–] cyberic@discuss.tchncs.de 10 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Because students take advantage (i mean we all did im one way or another). The younger the kids, the more parents (and the law) treat the school as responsible for the student and their supervision. That being said, in my opinion access to a bathroom is a basic human right.

[–] TigerClawTV@lemmy.world 16 points 2 years ago

In my neighborhood, someone would pee in the water fountain if this happened

[–] OofShoot 15 points 2 years ago (3 children)

..... Why? How is this a better choice than a door?

[–] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 years ago

Teaches kids about the 13th amendment

[–] usualsuspect191@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 years ago

It can still meet barrier free when open? That's the only thing I can think of. Not sure why they need to lock it in the first place though

[–] alejandro@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Extremely charitable guess: they want it to be open to prevent the spread of germs slightly (so nobody has to touch a door), but need the option of closing it after school hours to prevent vandalism.

[–] Silviecat44@vlemmy.net 13 points 2 years ago

This link/post is mildly infuriating

[–] SeeMinusMinus@lemmy.world 12 points 2 years ago

Fuck it. I am peeing in the hallways!

[–] milkytoast 12 points 2 years ago (3 children)

i swear, schools will do everything they can to stop you from taking a piss when you need

[–] spicymayo@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 years ago

Oh I'm sure the students will find another use for that drinking fountain.

[–] TediousParrot@feddit.uk 5 points 2 years ago

Looks to me like it is the school that is taking the piss.

[–] Confuzzeled@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Are things like this standard practice in the US? When I was a kid we were allowed to urinate and defecate when the need arose.

[–] milkytoast 5 points 2 years ago

i mean most teachers will make you ask, which is more of just letting them know you're going, bc they're not gonna stop u unless they're in the middle of explaining something

[–] 666dollarfootlong@lemmy.world 11 points 2 years ago

My social-anxiety-causing-diarrhea -ass would hate this so much

[–] berkeleyblue@lemmy.world 10 points 2 years ago

What’s it do? Test your DNA to make sure you only use the “correct” bathroom?

[–] FangedWyvern42@lemmy.world 10 points 2 years ago (2 children)

What is even the point of this?

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 14 points 2 years ago

Remember the end of Titanic, when the crew needs to keep the poor folks away from the life rafts?

[–] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 9 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

Without reading the post, to deter vandals and mystery poopers.

[–] c2h6@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Someone's just gonna pee across the gate into the floor of the bathroom lol

[–] woodhouse@lemmy.world 9 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

I'm definitely choosing this school to hide during the zombie apocalypse

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Just what a guy with a bunch of bite marks would say.

[–] steakfries@lemmy.one 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

kids today have it tough that's for sure. I'm curious to see how this affects society as a whole in 20-30 years.

[–] AFallingAnvil@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 years ago

Sadly in 20-30 years climate change will be in full swing with natural disasters on the weekly and crop failure to boot, to say nothing of desertification and water shortages. Kids will have much bigger problems than school shooters.

[–] VonVoelksen@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 2 years ago

Let me guess: Freedom Country?

[–] sasquash471@feddit.de 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)
[–] Tagger@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

I guess, as long as they're not locking people in the toilets?

[–] Izzy@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

Welcome to prison. Enjoy your stay.
