LPT: disable "Show Scores" in your settings. Score is useless, is often lazily used just to silence unpopular opinions and reduces engagement and reasoned arguments. (lemmy.ml)

Just engage, if you disagree with people. Engagement is much more useful than just donwoting and exposes different point of views.

Unless they're trolls or unwilling to engage in good faith discussions because then you're just promoting their views and wasting your time.

Also not every comment is worth engaging. Some are so shit that you should just downvote so no one has to see it.
