A nice place to discuss rumors, happenings, innovations, and challenges in the technology sphere. We also welcome discussions on the intersections of technology and society. If it’s technological news or discussion of technology, it probably belongs here.

Remember the overriding ethos on Beehaw: Be(e) Nice. Each user you encounter here is a person, and should be treated with kindness (even if they’re wrong, or use a Linux distro you don’t like). Personal attacks will not be tolerated.

What hostility? It's a publicly available fact that iPhone is terrible for privacy and security. Anyone who's interested in this app and is using an iPhone isn't serious about either.

By saying "you don't give a shit about privacy or security" you're making a judgement about the person you're speaking to without knowing anything about them. It's not just an accusation, it's done in a hostile way. Please be nice on this instance, repeated behavior will result in mod actions.

"Anyone who uses an iPhone doesn't give a shit about privacy or security." There you go.

The difference between "you" and "anyone" is trivial in this context.

You said:

you're making a judgement about the person you're speaking to

My rephrasing makes no such assumptions. It is a general statement, and as someone who works in digital forensics, it's one I stand by. Anyone who cares about their privacy or security will run screaming from the Apple ecosystem.

You replied directly to someone who was asking for an iPhone app. To make the conclusion that they may be an iPhone user is not a huge leap of logic.

It's not about whether the statement is true or not, it's about treating another user in a hostile way. It's about how your comment is likely to be perceived by the person on the other side of the screen.
