I've seen someone suggest wildmagic wands for a one shot.

Just because something can swim doesn't make it a fish.

You should definitely check out the original Monkey Island games when you have a chance! 1 and 2 got well done remasters, and 3 onward don't really need any remastering.

I expect that a decent amount of sales of these are just people who don't care replacing their PC.

I'd be shocked if there's in any way a statistically significant amount of these purchases driven by the "ai features".

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this has been tried numerous times in numerous places, and despite the positive results it only has ever become an option for workers at specific businesses (at best). I've seen this article many many times.

There's been no widespread movement for it.

For as long as companies can't even handle standardized work from home, I don't think it's likely that this will become a norm either.

"Year of the Linux Desktop" all over again.

ADL and some other groups got absolutely clowned on a number of years ago when they declared pepe a racist hate symbol, and instead of backing down they just keep trying to quietly push it again.

You can pretty safely ignore them.

Yep, and in the statement they're referring to, it explicitly suggests that their users should set up PGP.

Some additional context:

It was made by 4chan users over a decade ago, when that sort of thing was accepted there as "edgy humor". Make of it what you will. I think there's been some growing up, since they don't offer/support those domains now.

All of those things require admin rights, which is an explicit acceptance that you are now working with things that could fuck your shit up. Modern Windows, unless you disable UAC, asks you to confirm you're sure you want to use admin rights before you have the opportunity to break any of the shit you claim it's chill about.

Running an exe doesn't require admin rights, hence the extra warnings. Plus a malicious exe could do all that shit without asking for admin first through a privilege escalation exploit.

I swear, people find more uninformed shit to complain about with Windows every day.

If all else fails, you can try using whatever the lastest community supported fork of Universal Android Debloater is. It uses ADB to remove bloatware, which bypasses vendor locks on keeping certain apps installed.

Obviously no real replacement for custom ROMs, but it's better than nothing.

Flashing your lights or highbeams to pass is seen as quite agressive in the US. It isn't taught in drivers ed, and the general interpretation I hear most people have of it isn't "Hey, could you let me pass?" but instead "Hey! Fuckface! Stop driving so goddamn slow and get out of the damn way you shithead!"

Doesn't help that in my experience, the only people flashing to pass are aggressively tailgating me when I'm already 10 mph or more over the speed limit.

Better to just pass on the right if there's room. And if there isn't room, fuck off telling someone to get out of your way. Not like they can get over anyway.

So... wobbledogs's breeding system 20 years early.

Spooky stuff that helps explain a lot of the dysfunction flowing out from Microsoft.

Announcement TextDearest Recorders and Observers of Accord's Library.

These past few years have been a pleasure, but we regret to inform you all that we've been contacted by the Square Enix Legal Team. And after some private communications, based on the outlined requirements we have come to the conclusion that Accord's Library must close its doors by the end of the month. While we are sad to have to go, we also must respect the wishes of the Legal Team.

The Library and Gallery will remain opened for the next 2 weeks and will be officially closed on Oct 31.

We hope to continue spending time with you all, and other fans in the future through our Discord Server, which we plan to keep opened.

On behalf of the entire Council for Accord's Library, we sincerely thank you for your support and friendship over the years. We hope that you will continue to use the discord, though we understand if this is where we part ways.

From the very bottom of our hearts, we will be forever grateful to everyone who's volunteered their time to help build Accord's Library into what it was. Thank you to all of our Transcribers, Translators, and most of all, all of you for sticking with us.

Take care of yourselves out there. Glory to Mankind.

If anyone is skilled with backing up sites, any assistance would be appreciated. Even if it's just to point at the right tool for the job (been almost a decade since I've backed up part of a site).

Shoutout to !helloharu@lemmy.world making the original post.

I'm looking for a free, reputable ad blocker on the Play Store. Something that does local host/filter list filtering using the VPN feature, like Blokada 4 or 5 (before they started cloud hosting the filtering features as a money/data grab).

Personally, I'm no stranger to F-Droid or Obtanium and even have dipped my toes into ADB.

I need this for family members when they start asking, so I can point them at something decent that won't try to fleece them and get on with my life unburdened by family tech support hell. Something they can install through the Play Store they already have and easily switch on and off if something they "need" isn't working.

So that eliminates just setting their DNS to an ad blocking one in their Wi-Fi settings. Wouldn't follow them off that specific connection, and wouldn't be an easy toggle if something broke.
