Reddit will survive. Even if the blackout lasts a long time, other people will create new subreddits to replace the private ones. Or Reddit will replace the mods.

Economists are increasingly of the belief that Trudeau’s government is working at cross purposes to the central bank. Nearly 70 per cent of respondents to a Bloomberg survey say generous federal spending programs and higher immigration targets have led interest rates steeper than they would have otherwise needed to go.

Instead of targeted policy to limit reduce inflation, the federal and provincial governments have left the Bank of Canada to deal with it.

So complicated. It must be supply chain issues.

From the article

A Canadian, or a New Zealander on a working holiday visa, who takes a housekeeping job in Banff could quit their job at any time if they get a better offer elsewhere.

But temporary foreign workers have work permits that are tied to a specific employer. While they can change jobs in Canada, they would need a new work permit and an offer from another employer that has already received permission to hire a temporary foreign worker.

Damn.

The guy who assaulted Brown said

“I told [Justice Brown]: ‘You’re clearly intoxicated and the girls are creeped out by you. He shoved me …. I pushed him back, then punched him in the face twice and he fell to the ground.”

Police decided that punching Brown repeatedly in the head

“appeared reasonable and necessary, and no crime was determined.”

I hope I never find myself in a situation where cops think it's cool if someone punches me in the head.

All of the opposition parties have been calling for a public inquiry.

Canada needs to make SO. MANY. CHANGES. Not just federally, but provincially and municipally too.

The NDP is talking about increasing scope to include other states.

I'm pretty sure a foreign agent registry (of implemented properly) would cover any and all state actors.

I haven't heard of NCF for decades. It's awesome they're still around!

When I play that type of scenario I avoid using a map. Mostly because I take hours to create a map (which is pretty frustrating), but also because it's too restrictive. If the players ask about something clever, I want the latitude to include it. Your example of the secret passage is a great example of the later.

What do you think makes a good battlemap?

There isn't a one size fits all set of rules, but I like:

  • multiple exits and entrances. If the party needs to flee, or there are reinforcements, then they're should be a few ways on and off the battlefield
  • cover. A scattering of solid items to use as full or partial cover makes it easier for characters to move.
  • multiple paths allow units to circle behind enemies.

What do you look for in maps?

Pretty much this.

We have young kids that go to bed around 8. If we want to stay up, then we'd need another hotel room, turning $150 a night into $300 a night. On top of that, hotel rooms don't really have kitchens, so we'd have to eat out every meal. Airbnb ends up being cheaper and more convenient, even if the places are in the middle of nowhere.

Airbnb is shitty, but it fills a niche hotels have ignored.

Okay, so we are having a public enquiry now?

From the article, it sounds like there were a number of allegations that Johnston didn't investigate, so that makes sense.

Getting the opposition parties to agree on the head of the enquiry before it starts seems like a good idea.

This is one of those tips that sounds cheap, but I've really enjoyed it.

Instead of lemonade, put a drop of lemon (or lemon concentrate) in water. It's most of the taste, but you aren't drinking a tonne of sugar. I use this to add a bit of flavour to my water in WFH.

Edit: fixed typo. Thanks Jeff.

I'm surprised we've seen basically nothing from provincial or federal governments to improve housing/rental affordability. With riding interest rates, I was expecting at least a slump, but that hasn't happened. Instead, we've seen amortizations grow rapidly.

The Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions has recommended

Removing the ability to extend amortization periods could exert downward pressure on some house prices, as it reduces the options available to help some borrowers meet their financial obligation

But (AFAIU) Parliament has ignored the recommendation. It's a really shitty situation, that I don't see a way out of.
