Just an update for you. Your question is a good one and the scholars are eager to answer it. However, we've identified one of our first major bugs with the software and it is preventing the scholars from answering your question. The developer is working on hunting down the root cause of the problem so it can be fixed.

All of that being said, thank you for helping us test out the software. It's going to pay off huge for the future of the site.

The Beehaw project is not affiliated with any religion and neither is the Ask Bible Scholars project. Ask Bible Scholars has always been concerned with textual criticism inside the greater field of humanities.

Slows down the influx of trolls.

I was able to see them at their peak at a small venue. One of the best shows I've ever attended.

I'm going to have to remove this post because the source, www.memri.org, is so horrible.

Name-calling is NOT nice. Please, remember to be(e) nice at Beehaw.

[–] remington 2 points 1 year ago

Your comment could be easily taken as antisemitic. Our only rule at Beehaw is to be(e) nice. Please, keep this in mind for the future. BTW, you are using that Psalm outside of its historical context and does not apply to modern religious Jews.

It all feels like too much water in my Scotch.

LMAO good analogy!

Have never tired of this band...fucking unreal!

This is the only show, having exclusive access to, that I uploaded to YouTube.

You can find the original ones here: https://beehaw.org/post/443237

While I was attending university I was able to start the long process of recovering from the childhood abuse that I had suffered. There was a particular author that helped me tremendously in those early years.

Namely, Abraham Joshua Heschel, who wrote a book entitled God in Search of Man - A Philosophy of Judaism

Here are some quotes:

Theology starts with dogmas. Philosophy sees the problem first; theology has the answer in advance. Philosophy is a kind of thinking that has a beginning but no end; the problems outlive all solutions.

We teach children how to measure and weigh, but fail to teach them how to revere, how to sense wonder and awe. Modern man fell into the trap of believing all enigmas can be solved and wonder is a form of ignorance. Mankind will not perish for want of information, but for want of appreciation.

What is, is more than what you see; we are unable to attain insight into the ultimate meaning and purpose of things. We live on the fringe of reality and hardly know how to reach the core. Inaccessible to us are the insights into the nature of ultimate reality. Even what is revealed is incomplete and in disguise.

Awe is an act of insight into a meaning greater than ourselves. Knowledge is fostered by curiosity; wisdom is fostered by awe. Awe is the awareness of transcendent meaning; loss of awe is a great blockage to insight.

“The ineffable” is a synonym for hidden meaning rather than for absence of meaning, a dimension so real and sublime that it stuns our ability to adore it. All creative thinking comes out of an encounter with the unknown. It is a fact of profound significance that we can sense more than we can say.

The world as scrutinized and depicted by science is but a thin surface of the profoundly unknown.

My brother and I are speculating on a start-up in which we have almost all the bases covered.

However, the wall that we've run into is accounting. To explain, e-commerce transactions and dealing with all the complex tax laws is outside of our expertise.

One option that we've spit-balled is hiring an e-commerce accountant from Fiverr.

Do you have any other recommendations or ideas?

This song was released 27 years ago and still hits so fucking hard! Truly a band before its time...absolutely amazing.

Why I am here (self.chat)
submitted 1 year ago by remington to c/chat

First, I am here because I did not go through with my plans to end my own life so many years ago at the age of 13.

When I was entering my mid-forties I became overwhelmed with feelings of gratitude. I would wake up every morning feeling so incredibly thankful to be alive with a loving partner and two beautiful young children.

After reaching out to my closest friends and family for advice, it became clear to me that spreading this thankfulness/gratitude outwards into humanity was the best option.

Fast forward a little bit until I discovered a niche interest group on Reddit. Namely, /r/AcademicBiblical where I could learn and contribute for several years until I founded /r/AskBibleScholars. Both subs have worked together in order to bring the best biblical scholarship, down from the ivory towers, to the general public.

With my interest in humanities and my background as a web developer, I decided to create https://askbiblescholars.com which has functioned as a blog for the aforementioned scholars.

Over the past 6 months I’ve been working with developers to build a Q&A functionality into that .com site. I am, currently, alpha-testing this on my own machine here at home.

But wait…there’s more!

I’ve been beta-testing stuff all the way back to Orkut and Gmail and I guess that’s why I’ve always found my self in these current circles such as Beeper.

That’s what drew my attention to Tildes and why I spent considerable time there during testing phases. During that time, some of us that were using that site, decided to try something else.

We grouped together on Discord and did a lot of talking…some have said that we talked far too long before taking action. Finally, we settled on Lemmy as a software platform in order to launch Beehaw.

Circling back around to why I am here…

I am incredibly thankful to be here right now and I want everyone else to feel this way.

I've been maintaining this list for many years and I hope that you enjoy it.
