It's definitely other things too. It's a perceived indicator of quality due to higher prices alone, which also make it a status symbol, and even a moral imperative and source of judgment. Probably associated with orthorexia.

it's likely not possible for all produce to be grown organically and still maintain affordability and production numbers for consumer demand at the same price. Cheap chemical fertilizers are a significant reason why the population got so damn big.
