yeah that's actually really annoying isn't it? if you're on another instance then I think the easiest way to get there without direct linking everything is !breathe@slrpnk.net and then click on the post there.

From the FAQ

Can people shop at brands with the highest scores and feel confident they’re not supporting exploitative practices?

Exploitation in the fashion and footwear industries is so prolific that, in our experience, there are only a select few, small, niche brands, who have built their business model on ethical sourcing from the start, that could potentially guarantee they’re not supporting exploitative practices.

Read: Nike still uses sweatshops.

To avoid fragmenting responses, pls post comments in the original SLRPNK post.

Hey, I'm putting together a list of places where you can buy ethical and sustainable stuff made in Australia.

As a quick and dirty example. check out this organisation that accredits Australian clothing brands.

Post linking on lemmy sucks but check out the post:

Maybe this could be a living document? Idk

If you're looking for some local and ethically produced clothes by Australian brands, I found this organisation called Ethical Clothing Australia (accredition guidelines). If you need new clothes, maybe give them a look-over?

I'm looking for your reccs too, it could literally be anything as long as it's not evil.

Alright so here's the absolute baseline if you want to do better (also seen in the article), if you wanna be a little bitch about this go somewhere else:

  1. Buy less shit: Manufacturing happens in advance but this way you're not adding to the numbers for their next run.
  2. Use what you have: idc if you have to buy new shoes, but this is literally the most sustainable thing you can do
  3. Repair and mend: This kinda depends tbh, if you have a nice set of goodyear welted shoes/boots then this is easy. Sneakers were meant to be broken and thrown out.
  4. Don't be an idiot: If you bought a pair of shoes in resellable condition, resell them. If you're buying new shoes, shop conscientiously (that means second-hand, or repairable kit from sustainable & ethical brands).

reddit is basically the knowledgebase for everything, we can be too.

If that's really what's up then I'm out, that sounds pathetic. Also I'm going to pretend you can't read and thought I was looking for change online. I said we need a place for ppl who are ready to change, or are changing.

Yeah I get it, everything fucking sucks and sometimes we get a win. I've been here for 30 minutes tops and I can't remember half of the headlines I've read, can you? There's like no engagement on any of the posts here and there's probably a dozen aggregators that post the same shit you're looking at.

Shit that was written to nickel and dime you somehow, or lower down the food chain in an academic format for people actually paid to solve problems.

Leave the articles to the climate scientists and policy makers: This instance needs a place for people who get shit done, people who wanna change themselves and their immediate communities. We don't have enough of that, anywhere.
