I would only ever run an "All-Evil Campaign" if all your players are very good and you trust them and/or you have some rules and guidelines to keep them focused. There is an excellent 3rd party Pathfinder adventure path called Way of the Wicked that pulls off the "All-Evil Campaign" really well. The party must be Lawful Evil, right from the get go the plot establishes a great reason why the party should be working together, and a diabolic contract makes sure they wont try any funny business with their boss.
Even though you're not the DM, it still doesnt mean you cant talk to other players one-on-one and discuss their actions with them. They're your friend (hopefully) so just bring up what problems you have and try to sort it out
When I was a kid I was super into pokemon. I loved playing the games and they stood out to me for one reason: they were challenging. My first game was Black, and I got stuck on the first gym leader for a few days, but when I figured it out it was immensely satisfying. I would hit roadblock, I would struggle, and eventually I overcame it. Then my friend introduced me to Pokemon Mystery Dungeon and it got even harder. I honestly think that the final dungeon of Explorers of Time made me smarter or something. It forced my dumbass child brain to think outside the box and find solutions on my own.
Then Pokemon X and Y released, and it was the most stupidly easy game ive ever played. And it kept getting easier after that. Add onto that the worsening quality and I stopped caring about Pokemon. My friend who is really into Pokemon hasnt bought a new game in years, he only plays Romhacks or replays the old games.
Ill check out the LotR And Star Wars games, those seem pretty neat. But honestly, I don't think the DnD dungeon-crawler board are very good. They're still pretty fun, but way to many pieces and far too difficult at times.
A couple of my friends have Tabletop Simulator, and we need to get together to play Atmosfear. Saw a video about it and the idea is so interesting
Hit the nail right on the head. Thats why I LOVE all this rn. I can make posts and comment and people reply with genuine responses (like you for example). I never wanted to comment because it would just get drowned in the sea of recycled ideas. Plus all the bots which made me paranoid about doing anything. A part of me hopes that Lemmy stays like an old school forum/message board forever, because i'm really enjoying this.
Oh yeah we're all Pathfinder players lol. Every board game and ttrpg becomes a puzzle that we have to solve with the resources available. So when the game isnt exactly balanced, its not as fun for us.
A part of me wishes that this all just stays as small forums and stuff. Its nice to actually talk to people instead of worrying about accounts actually being bots.
I loved r/TrueSTL and r/196, but after it devolved into half cropped porn and hornyposting about femboys it just wasnt funny anymore. And not judging preference or anything btw it was just too much. And those two subs are just the ones that pop into my head there were way more, like Wordington.
Me and friends play the early version of Betrayal at House on the Hill a lot (i think they released an updated version recently) and I also have Baldurs Gate since im a big fan of DnD and the Forgotten Realms setting and the Baldurs Gates games. However, we dont really play the Baldurs Gate version anymore, since it doesnt feel very balanced. The Warlock character, with the ability to attack with Sanity AND at range right from the start is always really OP and has won them the game multiple times. We've also had the traitor lose really fast AND really quickly.
Tabletop rpgs are my passion. I devote a lot of time to it, and getting together with my friends to play is my favorite thing in the world. Currently dming Pathfinder Kingmaker.
You had me at "Freelancer the board game". I love that game, and what you're describing sounds fun as hell
