Find the community I want on another instance - the URL works for me. E.g. “http://lemmy.ml/c/asklemmy”

Aha! Another search method. Thanks, didn't know you could also use a direct URL search.

Once again, Thanks @Dave for starting this instance. Thanks also to fediservices.nz, for providing hosting for it.

Regarding the FAQ about "I want a community about X, how do I create it?"

In my limited experiences so far, if you have found a community that you want to participate in on another Lemmy instance that does not appear in the Communities page of Lemmy.nz and is not appearing within 10-20 secs when you try to search for it. Try the following:

Search for !@. If this does not return any results search for the only after a few seconds delay.

-Rinse -Lather -Repeat

It seems that sometimes the Fediverse takes it's time to federate... All good, keep on trying :)

I use a combo of Jerboa and the mobile web interface atm. Still haven't decided if I like one over the other yet.

I've always valued the perspectives, reviews, opinions and recommendations of the members of r/patientgamers to help me find new gaming experiences.

Thanks for creating this community.

---------------

Over 90% of my Reddit access is through a 3rd party mobile app; the future for this is looking a bit bleak.

I’m testing the waters of Lemmy in the unlikely event that the Reddit admins and the majority of users notice that it's shooting itself in the foot with these changes to the API access policy.

I mostly lurk on r/welly and I'm testing the waters of Lemmy in case Reddit shoots itself in the foot.

Over 90% of my reddit access is through a 3rd party app so it's looking a bit bleak anyway.

I don’t think smaller communities are less prioritised, but on larger communities it’s much more likely some I else has searched it up first so it’s already federated with the server.

Fair enough, It's just a half baked supposition I came to after some larger non-federatred communities showed up almost instantly and a few others took more of time.

Yeah mate. Your take on it sounds about right with a dash of lesser used communities are less prioritised... IDK, just making things up at this point.

LOL, This is starting to feel a bit like the the days of direct dial-up BBSs, where I'm in a chat with the sysop. Love it :D

Just to add some anecdotal information to the discussion already in this post.

I've been trying to sub to !futurology@lemmy.ml since I created my account early yesterday and it's just shown up a few minutes ago in a search.

Anyway, thank you @Dave@lemmy.nz for starting this instance up.

Edit: added link to !futurology@lemmy.ml

That dream is in my head as well :)

A bit rough initially as you might expect with a new platform but I've now got an account on a (geographically) local instance and subscribed to some communities in general interest areas on other instances. Looks promising. Now I just gotta find some niche communities.
