Israel is retaliating against civilians for an attack carried out by Hamas. This is what America did in Afghanistan after the attack on the world trade center in 2001. It was dumb and it's dumb now.

It's giving me Iraq war vibes, except my friends aren't getting involved. The escalation doesn't make sense at all unless you consider Netanyahu needed to distract from his aspirations of becoming a dictator.

"Metaverse" was the idea that you would use only Meta services instead of the wider Internet. Much like AOL and Yahoo tried back in the 90s and 00s.

We already have an excess of flights. Just reduce the amount of unnecessary flying.

It's only important for increasing octane. You would have to reduce the performance of the engine on order to prevent knocking.

That's a myth.

You're forgetting the easy third option. Just ground everything that requires leaded fuel. Problem solved.

Republicans are frothing at the mouth for the first incident where someone is released and then commits a crime.

You can just say Zionists.

The worst part about plastic bottles is the energy required to make them.

They go through a 2 stage process where the plastic is melted and injection molded into a "pre-form"

Then they get fed into a blowmolding machine where they are heated in different areas by many 2k watt halogen bulbs. Once they've been heated properly they go into the blow mold where they are pressurized with ~500psi air.

The molds are liquid cooled through an industrial pipe system with an extremely large refrigeration system. The energy required to run all of the equipment is insane. A factory can consume as much energy in one hour as a standard home will in an entire year.

This doesn't include all of the energy required for moving materials around since performs can be made at one factory and shipped to another and empty bottles are often shipped to warehouses and then off to the plant where they will be filled, then warehoused then distributed etc.

My dad has a PhD and he's on his third marriage. Do you think I should ask him life advise? He's dumb as hell unless you need a complex math problem solved. However, he feels like he can punch above his weight when it comes to other issues. It's like a pro football player who thinks they could compete in any Olympic sport because they're good at football.

They placed target stores in areas where people are more price sensitive and therefore less likely to shop at target.

I live in a semi-rural community with few internet options.

T-mobile become an option so I decided to give it a shot. It's a decent price/performance option between DSL and cable internet.

As you can see I've made a fully custom hanging shelf with a piece of scrap 1/4" plywood and twine for optimal placement.

I then cracked open the unit and installed external antenna adapters. I placed a directional antenna on the roof.

I kept experiencing complete connection dropouts which became worse over time. After some research I found that other users said that the problem was the unit overheating.

I placed a 120mm fan on top. I wired up a barrel jack so it can be plugged into a normal 12v adapter and it just stays on all the time. I might clean this up and use a temperature controller in the future. It's currently held to the unit with scotch tape.

Everything has been stable for now. Maybe I'll find some more ways to tweak it to get better performance.

Last week a recent highschool graduate was shot and killed by a Rantoul police officer.

There was gun fire at the vigil held the next day for the person that was killed.

Then the day after that there was a standoff with armed suspects at a mobile home park in Rantoul.

Now the village administrator has resigned after being arrested for Domestic battery and preventing the reporting of Domestic battery.

see a lot of discussion about adding more specific communities on this instance and I feel as if it will dilute the community too much.

I personally see Lemmy instances as somewhat similar to old forums, many of those did so well because the community came together under a shared experience.

Lemmy is decentralized after all and instances based around interests will get created and discussion will get focused on certain instances for certain topics. Those instances will be moderated by the people who have passion and understanding for those topics.

Of course the great thing about Lemmy is that we're (mostly) free to visit other instances and if there are redundant communities it is not difficult to participate in them.

I do think it's nice to have a place to call home, a "hive" if you will. Where users can discuss their shared experience on the fediverse.
