I played several games with a group of friends and we now have biweekly meetups to play a few rounds of Blood on the Clocktower. I was wondering if anyone else played it?

It's a social deduction game with the same idea as Mafia/Werewolf or Town of Salem where all the players are either on the good team or the evil team. The good team has to find who's on the evil team by sharing information. The evil team consists of one Demon and at least one Minion (depending on player count). The goal is for the good team to find and execute the Demon, while the evil team has to try to convince the town that they're good.

What I like about it is that each player has their own unique role. There are a bunch of different roles with different abilities, whether it be getting information or having the ability to do something. There are even roles for different demons and minions with their own abilities. You're also allowed to go into private discussions, and dead players still play a part in the game. Dead players can still talk to other players and they have a dead vote that they can use to vote someone else (although if you use your dead vote, you lose it). I also like that you can talk during the night, although we have a house rule that you're not allowed to talk about the game during the night out loud (if we're playing online we're allowed to use text chat).

There's also so many custom scripts that combine all sorts of roles, including experimental ones that are released every month but aren't in the official scripts.

Does anyone else enjoy Blood on the Clocktower?

I'm scared if I bookmark it I'll forget about its existence or it'll get lost in the thousands of other bookmarks I have

This is genuinely terrifying

Reinforced binder paper where the holes are triangles and reinforced with tape. I hadn't had to deal with my papers getting ripped out of a binder/refillable notebook since getting them

That's not harmless that's cruel ๐Ÿ˜ญ

I saw a video once of a prank where two girls go up to a stranger asking them to take a picture of them across the street. The stranger takes the photo and when the two girls start crossing over to the other side, a car passes by and the two girls are replaced with two old men wearing the same shirts. Even the Polaroid photo shows the old men. It's genuinely funny and completely harmless. It just makes the person getting pranked go, "Wait, what the fuck???"

I do hope the people were told that they were pranked though and that they don't live the rest of their lives thinking they're insane ๐Ÿ˜‚

ETA: also this video where the guy puts on the collar and leash of his blind husband's service dog when he asks him to go get his watch. (He immediately reveals himself when the blind husband gets back to pick up his service dog's leash again and the husband thinks it's hysterical).

So obviously a lot of us are partial to kbin/Lemmy but have any of you explored the other alternatives like Raddle, Squabbles.io, and Tildes?

I made an account on Raddle because r/egg_irl and r/ennnnbyyy moved there and I also made one on Squabbles.io because some of the subreddits I joined had an analogous one on Squabbles.io. I haven't use either enough to form a good opinion on them. Raddle seems to be predominantly political, and I'm trying to limit my exposure to politics and prevent doomscrolling.

What are your thoughts on these alternatives?

I should really start doing regular backups again, do the 3-2-1 backup strategy again, and organize my backups but there's so many files and stuff on my devices and external drives that it's overwhelming and I don't know how to properly sort it. ADHD kicks my ass too and I know that it takes a while to backup and that means my computer needs to idle so it can get done faster and doesn't slow my computer down.

Also, I'm struggling with cloud backups too. Google Drive and OneDrive often had errors in the middle of uploading and I'm hesitant to spend money on a cloud service. And doesn't Backblaze need you to have your device connected at least once every 30 days or your data will be deleted or something? I have ADHD and I can't guarantee I'll be on top of that. And do I upload image backups to these servers? Is that even possible? What about video game backups and other large files? Or all the videos I have? Aren't these cloud services really slow as well? I feel like I'll end up having the same problem...I could use zip files, but I keep worrying something will get removed in the middle of it.

And how do I check backups? I can't reasonably check every single file I've ever made.

I don't know how to handle all of this. I mainly use FreeFileSync for copying drives over with anything being overwritten just being moved to a Revisions folder. I also sometimes use Macrium Reflect for image backups, but the free version is being retired... I tried Veeam once but it didn't backup the AppData folder when I tried doing a file level backup about a year ago.

I have a Mac and a Windows computer by the way. I do want to check out Linux someday though.

I don't know if I can do a NAS either. I don't think I have an extra computer lying around and I'm a college student who needs to travel from home to my college campus. And I don't have a lot of room on my bedroom desk...And I hate how backups often prevent me from using one of my computers.

I don't see an option for it anywhere

Basically you're a radio host in a small town and there is a killer on the lose. The sheriff is dead and phone extensions won't work so one of the only officers this town has has to go out of town to get help, so now all the 911 calls are being redirected to you and you need to give people advice and guide them to avoid the killer. You need to look around the radio station building for clues and information on how to help the callers escape the killer. It even involves mystery solving skills in a few parts. It also takes place in 1987 and it definitely has the 80s aesthetic and theme throughout.

It's about 6 hours long and somewhat pricey (it's on sale until July 31st for $20 USD as opposed to its normal $25 price tag), but I definitely don't regret spending that money because it was so fun and engaging the entire time. One of the best gaming experiences I've ever had.

Image Description: A meme with a blue background. On the right, there is a photo of an elderly woman laying on the ground with her head raised, as if she had fallen down. On the left, there is a younger man with a stethoscope hanging around his neck writing something on a clipboard. In big word art, the text says "Why flirt? When there's life alert?"

In smaller text right beside the elderly woman, it says "hey there big boy". The text besides the younger man says, "You gotta stop doing this Edna". In the far top right corner, there is a life alert device.

Image Description: A screenshot from the game Papers, Please that shows a man as the current entrant. His passport is on the player's desk. The passport says that his name is "Parabol, Stanislav".

I love Mlem and wefwef.app so far. I've seen a lot of people mention Memmy but I haven't really used it yet.

What do you like to use for mobile Lemmy?
