France has been a big fan of revolution since the late 18th century. They're on their Fifth Republic and I'm sure some French people feel they're overdue for a Sixth, just for the sake of keeping the tradition alive.

Totally in agreement. One of the few things Republicans and Democrats agree on is keeping fptp the standard; it allows them to continue to dominate the election scene. Ranked choice voting would give third parties a fighting chance, so most people in the DNC and GOP will oppose it tooth and nail.

Either the Democrats need to make some big changes internally, or a third party is going to have to break up the current duopoly. The current Democratic party sucks, as an effective opposition to the Republicans. The GOP just keeps drifting further to the far-right, and the Democrats continue to compromise even though the demands are becoming more extreme. This drags the whole government toward more conservative policies, regardless of which party is winning the elections.

Change isn't going to happen when you have an aging centrist like Biden in the Oval Office. Governing by compromise is all he knows how to do. And yet, the Democrats still think they're "winning" even though the GOP is actively twisting their arm with every policy they try to pass. We need more people in Congress who are actually liberals, not centrists, and recognize that the current system isn't working for anyone outside outside of the 1%. Until that happens, the far-right is just going to keep turning up the heat, and the rest of the country is going to be stuck sitting there like a frog in a pot of water that is slowly being brought to a boil.

I refuse to believe this decision was influenced, in any way, by any actual consideration of the U.S. Constitution. There's no reasonable interpretation of that document which would provide sufficient justification to rule the relief plan unconstitutional. This was a political decision, pure and simple, by a government body that is supposed to be apolitical. Just like every other branch of government, the judiciary has become corrupted by billionaire donors and turned into a polarized mockery of its original intent. No wonder public opinion of the Supreme Court is in the toilet. They're no better than Congress these days.

I spend most of my time in create-a-wrestler mode in games like this, so when I heard that AEW's game has a bare bones mode with a minimal number of options, it was an instant "pass" for me. It might be better on PC if mods are developed, or if THQ releases a substantial update, but not worth buying at launch for me personally.

That reminds me of how my conservative uncle got really angry once, when I showed him one of my college papers. Started ranting about how it's a bunch of liberal indoctrination.

In fairness, the paper was left-aligned.

The base game has improved considerably since launch, though it still lacks some promised content and performance will vary depending on your hardware. I have a PC with a Ryzen 7 and a RTX 2070, which can run the game well enough, but have not tried it on a machine with an AMD video card.

I think the base game might still be on sale and now might be a good time to pick it up for 50% off. Major updates will still be coming to the base game even if you don't buy Phantom Liberty... including vehicle combat, I believe.

It's Florida, in the United States. The article is from a local news station, which is probably why they don't mention their own state. Sorry for the confusion!

It’s insane that Thomas is still a Supreme Court justice

Absolutely zero argument with you there.

Considering how well the Super Mario movie worked out for Illumination, I'm expecting to hear something about a new movie or short TV series. Maybe more Mario, maybe Legend of Zelda. In any case, there's no way Nintendo won't be going hard in that direction now that they see what a gold mine it is.

I think it's interesting how Trump cultists have been screaming for months that the DoJ should leave their guy alone, and look into Hunter Biden instead.

Turns out, they have been looking into him, and Hunter's going to enter a guilty plea. Because the DoJ can conduct multiple investigations simultaneously.

Sooo... Trump supporters should be happy now, right? Everyone can shut up about the Trump investigations being witch hunts?

As someone who has held a security clearance with the U.S. Federal government and has handled classified material as part of my official duties, I am reasonably confident in stating that the presence of golf shirts in a container holding classified documents is not sufficient to declassify said documents.

"In legal filing, the NewsGuild said Gannett’s leadership has gutted newsrooms and cut back on coverage to service a massive debt load. Cost-cutting has also included forced furloughs and suspension of 401-K contributions."

"Among the contract demands are a base annual salary of $60,000. The median pay for Gannett employee in 2022 was $51,035, according to the company’s proxy filing."

"Gannett, which owns USA Today and more than 200 other daily U.S. newspapers with print editions, announced last August that it would lay off newsroom staff to lower costs as it struggles with declining revenue amid a downturn in ad sales and customer subscriptions."

"According to the NewsGuild, Gannett’s workforce has shrunk 47% in the last three years due to layoffs and attrition. At some newspapers, the union said the headcount has fallen by as much as 90%."

"Pence supporters see a lane for a reliable conservative who espouses many of the previous administration’s policies but without the constant tumult. While he frequently lauds the accomplishments of the 'Trump-Pence administration,' a Pence nomination in many ways would be a return to positions long associated with the Republican establishment but abandoned as Trump reshaped the party in his image. Pence has warned against the growing populist tide in the party, and advisers see him as the only traditional, Reagan-style conservative in the race."

"As vice president, Pence had been an exceedingly loyal defender of Trump until the days leading up to Jan. 6, 2021, when Trump falsely tried to convince Pence and his supporters that Pence had the power to unilaterally overturn the results of the 2020 election. That day, a mob of Trump’s supporters violently stormed the U.S. Capitol building after being spurred on by Trump’s lies that the 2020 election had been stolen. Many in the crowd chanted 'Hang Mike Pence!' as Pence, his staff and his family ran for safety, hiding in a Senate loading dock."

"None of our first party games in the show are full CG trailers. Everything is either in-game footage, in-engine footage, or in-game footage with some cinematics. Each of our trailers will be labeled so it is hopefully clear for our fans."

In his first response to being indicted by a federal grand jury, Frederick County Sheriff Charles “Chuck” Jenkins denied having “any financial incentive or fraudulent intent” when he helped a gun dealer obtain machine guns to rent out to the public.

“Sheriff Jenkins’ entire role in this alleged conspiracy, was to sign the letters put before him,” his attorneys wrote in a new court filing. “At worst, Sheriff Jenkins was duped by Krop into providing these demonstration letters, without ever knowing or having reason to know that Krop’s motive was to gain financially from special permission to possess and to import, even to obtain, these weapons.”

For those of you who aren't familiar with Chuck Jenkins, the current Sheriff of Frederick County, Maryland, here's a brief summary. He's a MAGA Republican who has spent his taxpayer-funded salary to pose for photos with Lauren Boebert at Mar-A-Lago and stated on WFMDAM's Morning News Express Podcast on June 30, 2022 that "every Democrat in America is trying to destroy this country." There are other egregious statements of his out there, but that should tell you everything you need to know.

He won re-election in 2022 but was recently indicted on federal charges by the Maryland U.S. Attorney's Office, for allegedly falsifying multiple documents on the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office letterhead, requesting machine guns for evaluation and demonstration to the Sheriff’s Office. The indictment further alleges that the owner of a local shooting range, Robert Justin Krop, drafted these documents for Sheriff Jenkins, and that both men knew the machine guns were intended for rental to Krop’s customers, not for demonstration to law enforcement.

The press release detailing the indictment came out on April 5, and Sheriff Jenkins has been on leave since then. He and Krop have both been arraigned and entered pleas of not guilty, but Jenkins and his legal team were otherwise silent until yesterday. They appear to be pleading ignorance, which doesn't seem like it's the best thing for his public image, and it'll be interesting to see if Krop will quietly allow Sheriff Jenkins to throw him under the bus like this. As of right now, no new court dates have been set for either defendant, and it's unclear whether the two will be tried separately or via a single trial.
