6 months from now: “We didn’t sell it, we granted them a non revocable permanent license to be the exclusive producers of D&D content, but we still receive a royalty fee and have no control over it”

I wish I'd spent more time as a kid doing mental math.

I'm terrible at it, but it is a useful skill despite having a phone in my pocket almost all the time.

While sucky, this feels inevitable.

With LLMs and the massive wave of spam coming out right now make caching content way more expensive. And then Google gains no value from this. Long tail spam attacks are already strangling google lately.

I think the only way to run a search engine in the mid 2020s is to download the data, process the page in memory, extract to metadata+embeddings and store only those. There’s no value in storing the rendered page offline for later analysis since you’re likely not doing that later analysis.

Internet Archive hopefully can fare better by being curated by humans and storing data infrequently when important, whereas Google needs to scan a lot of info frequently with nearly no human input.

I took today off, and I'm just doing hobbies and enjoying myself with my cats sleeping next to me.

Honestly this is better than the old suit, but I still don't want it.

What I would like: this is a webpage about cars, maybe the ads should be relevant to the content, instead of images of disgusting toenails that say "your doctor will eat your baby if you don't read this"

Well there goes my afternoon

Tldw for those of us who would rather read words?

I bought the WD MyCloud and I wish I just bought a real NAS, it's flaky and I have to reboot it each time I do a backup.

I regret buying western digital.

You can be left without being an asshole

You can also be right without being an asshole, but unfortunately you can't seem to vote for any decent right wing party that isn't packaged with bigotry these days.

This is a great comment, and you're right, I just think there's room for both and realistic games can still be stylized and make you say "wow".

Also I recommend Ghost of Tsushima, the gameplay is really solid, the graphics are beautiful, and I really enjoyed the story.

It's an open world, linear story, and it has a very strong visual style.

Hey all, newb here. I’m building my first workshop in my basement with hand tools only (might add power tools later) and looking for some advice.

I’m still undecided on a sharpening setup, so wondering what other people like. How fussy are water stones, and how do you manage keeping them true? Do you have any cool tricks or things you want to show off?

Actually I quite enjoyed this episode, but "Tucker gets stranded/abducted" is the centre square on Enterprise Bingo
