I'm looking at an e-bike. I'm really not comfortable going high speeds on scooters. Bikes are much more comfortable at speed due to the lower centre of gravity. Plus it gives me the option of carrying cargo, making it a full car "replacement" (not that I have one to begin with).

What are folks in places like Gisborne supposed to do when the infrastructure for digital payments goes out in another flood?

Good. Let's get on with it.

The people against this have no idea what they want. Is Wellington dead or will this move kill it? Was de-pedestrianising Manners Mall a bad idea or should we avoid handing places over to pedestrians?

We gotta do something, and LGWM at least is a step in the right direction.

Couldn't have written it better myself.

I'll say while I think comments about public figures should be allowed, and I might have some unkind words for certain figures in in-person conversation, I'd rather people talk about the impacts of policy or statements rather than assign people monikers.

Like I might agree that such and such politician is a wanker, but I'd rather see comments like "that policy will have X negative effect" or "what he said is out of touch because Y"; even if I would agree with "they're a huge dickhead".

I would have left if it had kept up for any longer. Attracting all sorts from elsewhere to express overt transphobia. Not the friendly community vibe I was there for.

I'm based everywhere I go.

The approach you've described sounds extremely vulnerable to sealioning.

The moment that this becomes a place where we spoon-feed an education to bad-faith actors, I'm out, and I imagine a lot of others will be too.

Don't be so concerned about losing bigots that you lose the people impacted by their rhetoric.

How are people accessing this? I'm using Jerboa for Lemmy because it was the first result in the app store. I'm honestly a little disoriented.

Hey everyone, You might recognise me from /r/Wellington. I try my best to be nice and level-headed. I like to think of the subreddit (and whatever the equivalents are called here) as the local watering hole where we all know each other and try our best to get along.

Really happy to see this here. I hope this Lemmy thing takes off.

Shall we introduce ourselves?
