No? That really depends on the person who's traveling. Saying that all tourist are obnoxious is a fallacy.

What? Saying that saying that is a fallacy is a fallacy

I may have worded my comment erroneously. What I was trying to say is that not all tourist have to be, by definition bad people.

[–] lisko@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

You are right and they aren't "bad people", they are just annoying ;)

[–] SrEstegosaurio@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 years ago

Hmmm, most of them? Probably, (I live in a touristic place.) but not all. We can't just generalise.

I live in a big tourist area and american/German tourists are the stereotype you imagine them to be

It may be necessary for some economies, but otherwise it's also inevitable. At the very least it must be tolerated

Tourism isn't evil.

Tourism-centric economies that ignore the needs of local population to serve tourists and make money (... Therefore Capitalism) is evil. Car/plane centric infrastructure that greatly increases CO2 production (.... Therefore CapitalismΒ²) is evil.

Travel and tourism are, in and of themselves, positive and enriching, if you somehow divorce them from said capitalist forces.

Yeah. Tourists are annoying, and can kill your culture. But they pay the bills.
