Panerai should be commended for never faltering or compromising on their wild fucking design language.
Watches
A community for watch & horology discussion.
There's no such thing as "value for money" in the luxury watch space. All luxury watches are overpriced - that is the whole point of "luxury" - duh. Speaking along the same lines, I saw a reviewer try to justify the price difference between two dive watches because one was METAS certified whilst the other was only COSC certified - literally for 99.999% of people this won't make a difference. Most of these luxury watch goobers take their watches off to wash their hands.

I absolutely, positively hate the snowflake hands of Tudor watches. I don’t have any problem with people who like them or like Tudor… but, IMHO, that are UGLY!
-
Also, Chinese market will be competing with the Swiss market within the next couple of decades.
- It's a middle finger hand
Esthetically, Seiko is the Cole Haan shoes of watches. If you try to be everything, you have no identity or your own.
I hate Cristopher Wards branding. I know it’s not but it sounds like a fashion brand name similar to Michael Kors or Steve Madden. That’s my two cents
Heavily agree. I feel like their branding is holding them back from much more appeal. The original logo was atrocious, and the new one isn’t much better, but the name itself sounds like a fake British sounding name that some company has slapped onto a fashion watch.
That said, I do love their new Twelve.
I would have bought a few of the watches if the logo was better. I hate it so much
NATO straps make any watch they’re put on look cheap and also aren’t meant to be used on watches that have spring bars, they put tension on them and make them pop out. So anyone claiming they protect the watch is unaware it’s fixing a problem it’s caused. They were designed for military watches where the case had slits to pass the strap through because it was the cheapest way to do things.
Rolex is boring, and just a "look what money I can waste" purchase. There...I said it.
This is not an unpopular opinion (within this subreddit). The majority of this sub absolutely loves hating on Rolex. There, that’s my de facto unpopular opinion.
I would never buy a Rolex new, but wouldn't say no if given one.
Low cost/Chinese homage watches are a low risk way to help downselect between 2 high price watches where you’re unable to buy both.
Watch nerds are usually the least underwater group of people I've ever met and NEEDING high water resistance in a watch is silly (most of the time).
What if I get caught in the rain? I’m too fat to run and too poor to own a car.
200m of resistance is more than enough for the majority of people. Which makes the comments about the difference between the Pelagos and the Pelagos FXD funny to me
50m is more than enough for most people
It's the same reason why people "need" AWD or 4WD on their car which they never use outside a city in decent weather...
The high amount of bb58, including the blues (and their discounted pricing) should show how people really feel.
They were rolex placeholders until people "got the call"
It's why I like the unique pieces like the pelagos.
Rolex is dull and overrated
Actually I genuinely think the Tudors look better than their Rolex counterparts, the submariner just looks cheesy to me.
So I guess that's my hot take ^
My only other one is I think roman numerals look stupid.
The only thing r/rolex is good for is circlejerk content
Breitlings are ugly old man watches
Display case backs should be standard. How am I going to convince more people to get into watches unless I can show off the beautiful movement?
As a dude I want a pink Nomos Club Campus 38. Also it should have a display case back
You may say that it's all about the movement and the history and the harnessing of time itself using only tiny metal cogs, demonstrating the god-like nature of man and so on, but we both know that you just fucking love the shiny on your wrist, you big tart.
Not a fan of the Rolex Daytona. There I said it.
I hate Tudors hour hand.
With that large square block. Just make the hands more luxurious and I would have tons of their watches
Fuck Rolex and the typical rolex hypebeast wearer. Boring dials, boring styles that are imitated ad nauseum across other brands.
Remember to sort responses by controversial to get the real answers
Nico is just a budget Archie Luxury.
I cringe out of my skin whenever someone calls a luxury automatic watch a "tool watch" or balks at a watch because of water resistance or something similar. If you want an actual "took watch" just buy a fucking G Shock. Automatics are, predominately, men's jewelery these days, and it's OK to embrace that.
Casios- and g-shocks in particular- scream middle/high school dork with a zip up binder to me. Value for money is definitely there and I can't discount the pure practicality of them but I cannot appreciate their aesthetic.
I don’t like the oversized watch trend. Even if it doesn’t feel heavy on your wrist, I don’t think it looks good at all.
