Victorians are being asked to fill out the state government's pet census — the first of its kind in Australia.

Minister for Agriculture Gayle Tierney says she wants to see responses from owners of all sorts of animals.

The minister joins Ali Moore on ABC Radio Melbourne Mornings to explain how the data will be used.

This is actually a pretty good idea. Get a count of how many animals there are and see what could be built up as a result of the outcome.
