You can block communities right now and they'll stop showing up in your feed. Then its just a matter of going to your profile in order to unblock them when you feel its necessary.
I dont think there is a function in lemmy to mass block similar communities. Perhaps we would need to implement tags so we could block all communities with the tag "football" or "drama", etc.
In this scenario, what is the difference between your proposal and the existing ability to Block a community?
Blocking is fine so far but afterwards I cannot unblock them. In addition "block" sounds more like bad behavior or something. I just don't want to see their content but dont have a problem with them. What happens, when I get linked or mentioned in one of its content? Since I blocked them, this notification or the content where I was mentioned would never reach me
Blocks can be found as a second tab when accessing your Settings. You should be able to remove blocked users and communities there. 
Thanks! I found it using the browser. So I just use this one, even if "block community" sounds very bad and evil :D
