I use endel for white noise, it's not melodic enough to engage my brain but still relaxing sounding and also helps since I live alone

I really like binaural music for sleeping. Other music, even classical, is too engaging for me. I found this awesome app called Medito, and while I haven't used it as intended(mediation) there is some great binaural stuff, all free. I've had insomnia issues my entire life, and I sleep so well with the binaural music, I can't recommend it enough.
If you grab the app, my favorite is Sleep -> Meditative Music -> Chris Collins -> Meditative Soundscape (binaural)
I use a fan at home, when I'm on the road I take a portable sleep noise speaker with me that can make different fan noises, white noise, or ocean noises. It has been a game changer for me when staying at noisy hotels.
i used to play music while trying to sleep, just on the lowest volume from my phone speaker, but haven’t been doing that for a few months. i would just put on whatever i’d been listening to during the day, which, funnily enough, would often tend to be pretty high energy so what screamy alt rock music. ie. my chemical romance, sleeping with sirens, pierce the veil.
now if i find myself wanting to have sound while falling asleep, i just put on plain quiet rain.
