I've started a new playthrough of Fallout New Vegas. Never got round to finishing it last time, so hopefully will do now! So far I've added some stability mods and a new radio station. Anyone got any other mod recommendations?

[–] dannydotcafe@lemmy.zip 4 points 11 months ago (2 children)

For a long time I went down crazy modding rabbit holes for the fallout games, spending more time modding than actually playing. I finally decided to just pick a setup and stick with it so I could actually enjoy the game. I ended up following this guy's modlist which has a nice focus on the essentials.

[–] OmegaMouse@feddit.uk 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Some of those look nice! I notice that a lot have pre-requisite mods, and those require their own pre-requisites 😱 I'll see if I can find some easy to install ones

I definitely recommend weapon inertia and the one that makes enemies react to getting shot (can't remember the name, ragdoll maybe?). They're subtle changes but make a huge difference in how the game feels!

I'll give those two a go! Looking into it, I think I'd need the following mods to get these to work, which isn't too bad:

  • B42 Weapon inertia
  • Ragdolls
  • JIP LN NVSE
  • JohnnyGuitar NVSE
  • NC Compatibility skeleton
  • The Mod Configuration Menu (optional)

One thing I'm not sure about... I installed MO2 on my Deck using this guide which also installs NVSE. But how do I know what version of NVSE it installed? A few mods mention they need a particular version of NVSE.

Looking at the script from the repo you installed 6.2.4. This isn't the most recent. I think you'd be fine to update (it's just extracting an exe and a couple dolls to your game directory). I've never heard of a mod requiring an older version, so staying with the most recent is probably good practice!

[–] OmegaMouse@feddit.uk 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Thanks, I got it working! Well all except the ragdoll mod because that requires you to have all the DLC :(

[–] Cowbee@lemm.ee 2 points 10 months ago

Most mods require Ultimate Edition, you'll find.

A bit late, but this list has a number of issues, notably things like ENB. For anyone wanting a minimal mod list, Viva New Vegas is the gold standard.

[–] dannydotcafe@lemmy.zip 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I definitely won't dispute that Viva New Vegas is a gold standard, but with the number of mods that even the base setup pulls in I wouldn't really call it minimal. I think the person who was asking (and me, the last time I played NV) just wanted a simple set of mods that did the most to improve the experience, which I think that list accomplished better than the others I'd looked at.

Apart from ENB, do you know what the other problems are? I'd guess mostly the result of it being a few years out of date, but genuinely curious!

[–] Cowbee@lemm.ee 1 points 10 months ago

Asterra's and WMIM have bugs associated with them.

VNV is very lightweight, and VNV extended is unnecessary if you don't want to do the whole guide. It really is the gold standard for a reason, the input is as low as it can be for a maximum output, which I'd argue is important for most people, especially considering the problems the Vanilla game has.

It's all up to you, of course! You can probably use Wabbajack if you wanted to, I don't actually have a Deck yet but that's what I'll do once I grab the OLED model today and it finally arrives.

[–] Cowbee@lemm.ee 1 points 10 months ago

Viva New Vegas is a fantastic one stop shop.

Spider-Man:Miles Morales. Hopefully by the time I beat it Spider-Man 2 will be on Steam and Deck Verified

[–] freakrho@programming.dev 3 points 11 months ago

I played it twice in a weekend, so be ready to wait

[–] dandroid@dandroid.app 1 points 11 months ago

It will likely be at least a year or two before Spider-Man 2 comes to Steam. It will be about 2 years for Horizon: Forbidden West, and I think that was the fastest one so far.

My Steam Deck is a "Baba is me" machine right now, most of the time. It is a neat little puzzle game to play while sitting on the couch.

[–] MentalEdge@sopuli.xyz 7 points 11 months ago

Deck is currently being borrowed by my dad to play Zero Dawn, but last I had it, I was using it for Final Fantasy VII Intergrade.

[–] Firefeet@pawb.social 5 points 11 months ago

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen I just wanted to see how well it ran (decently enough, a few more stutters / slowdowns than I hoped but certainly playable) and now it has been the main game I've played for several weeks 😅 Game is fun :b

[–] thetokenlady@midwest.social 3 points 11 months ago

Spiritfarer, which looks like it’s related to Stardew Valley, but turns pretty damn dark at times. Also Baldur’s Gate 3, Stray and Hollow Knight.

BG3 really needs to be played plugged in as it eats battery like crazy and also helps with a bigger screen. At which point I might as well go down to the big computer.

[–] geemili@lemm.ee 3 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Factorio and I just picked up a game called Outpath (similar to Forager, but in 3d! and other minor changes).

[–] ErwinLottemann@feddit.de 3 points 11 months ago

still vampire survivors 😵‍💫

[–] Fubarberry@sopuli.xyz 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

A friend got me into Honkai Star Rail, so that's been taking up most of my time.

Other than that, I've also been playing Black Mesa and Trolley Delayma which is a free little trolley problem game.

I'm still putting off Baldur's Gate 3 hoping for FSR 2 to be added, but with silence from the devs on when/if that's being added, I'll probably go ahead and start playing it soon.

[–] Ecksell@lemmy.one 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

How did you get HSR running on a Steam Deck?

[–] Fubarberry@sopuli.xyz 2 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

There's a 3rd party launcher for it. They've asked people not to link it publicly, so I'll send you a DM.

Finally got around to playing Carrion. It's a great game for the deck and is a massive amount of fun.

[–] i_am_hungry@meganice.online 3 points 11 months ago

Dave the diver, casual enough to play just before going to sleep.

[–] McWolke@lemm.ee 3 points 11 months ago

Binding of isaac

[–] jherazob 3 points 11 months ago

Currently going through every Metroidvania Castlevania posterior to Symphony, went through the Advance Collection and had to resort to emulation for the NDS ones, currently on Portrait of Ruin. After that we'll see.

[–] bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de 2 points 11 months ago

Still Baldur's Gate 3. And a little bit of Untitled Goose Game on the side.

[–] sunred@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 11 months ago

I recently discovered Tinykin, neat little game.

[–] Cuttlersan 2 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Been rocking out with Songs of Syx, a rather fun little city builder/colony management/4X mashup. Gotta admit I’m getting back into strategy games with the touchpad lol

[–] pipariturbiini@sopuli.xyz 2 points 11 months ago

Played most of COCOON during a recent airplane round-trip. Also started Pocket Mirror, I got an RPG Maker fever after playing Corpse Party.

[–] airbussy@lemmy.one 2 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Slowly getting through Lego Bricktales. Building on a flatscreen isn't as satisfying as the real thing, but it's a nice little game to play on Deck.

[–] danielquinn@lemmy.ca 2 points 11 months ago

Ni No Kuni II. It's a fun RPG that's easy to put down and come back to when you have time. The combat is fun too, though the voice overs are a bit distracting.

Replaying Spider-man and Miles Morales in preparation for SM2 on the PS5

[–] CalcProgrammer1@lemmy.ml 2 points 11 months ago

Haven't used my Deck in a while, but yesterday I played Overwatch on it. New gf plays on console, so she was on Switch and I was on Deck. I'm not good at controller Overwatch but after a few games I felt like I wasn't a complete drag on our team at least.

[–] hurricane155@lemmy.frozeninferno.xyz 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

High on life since I don't get to play much but have a marginal stack of games to get through. Good game so far and very witty

Aaaaaaannd I'm done...

Still Lonely Mountains: Downhill And newly bought Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun
