Welcome to today’s daily kōrero!

It doesn’t have to be me making the thread, first in first served. If you are here on a day and there’s no daily thread, feel free to create it!

Anyway, it’s just a chance to talk about your day, what you have planned, what you have done, etc.

So how’s it going?

Morena. Heat pump is going and I'm on my second coffee. Hope everyone is keeping warm this morning, I don't think we quite had a frost but that was probably to do with the wind than anything else.

I'm drinking tea in bed but unfortunately Soon I will have to leave my duvet fortress and start on weekend housework.

What was your choice of Tea this morning?

[–] Ozymati@lemmy.nz 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Unexciting english breakfast. But then later I had some sweet tangerine tea which I ordered off the internet and it was yum.

[–] NoRamyunForYou@lemmy.nz 3 points 1 year ago

I only recently got into English breakfast, and I must say there are times when I crave it. Having it milk almost makes it feel like a meal. Quite a heavy (don't know what to call it) drink.

Warmed up enough in Ōtautahi to open the doors and windows for a bit when doing some morning cleaning. A bit of a breeze made it too chilly though. Supposed to get cold again soon after the sun goes down, so we will be running the heat pumps too I assume.

You may have noticed but I've updated Lemmy.nz to the most recent Lemmy version (release candidate as official release isn't out yet).

Some people are having issues with logging in/out. Clear site cookies and cache and then it should work.

Water change on the turtles, a walk in the sun, housework, lunch in the cbd.

The transition to Lemmy has been good, I haven't been this engaged for a looong time. Reddit got too much.

There are comments all over the 'verse echoing the same sentiments. I saw a thread this morning asking for karma to be displayed and the feedback was a resounding NOOO, which I'm taking as a good sign.

Getting a bit more snow in Dunedin than I was expecting, nice big fluffy snowflakes in this flurry right now.

SO has been complaining about his (admittedly terrible) old laptop dying so I'm installing linux mint over the old Windows 10. He's not a tech-minded person so I'm keen to see what he thinks of it.

[–] bignoseduglyguy@lemmy.nz 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I'd be keen to hear the outcome. I have a sunsetted Chromebook and am keen to try Linux on it.

[–] sortofblue@lemmy.nz 2 points 1 year ago

I'm still running updates and installing a couple of extra drivers but it's definitely much snappier than what he had before. And his Logitech trackball now has a battery meter in the system tray, which it didn't on windows, so it's possible he'll end up preferring linux.

I got a chromebook running arch with xfce. When I tried the chromebook related distros they were all broken.

[–] luthis@lemmy.nz 3 points 1 year ago

xfce helps get so much more mileage out of old hardware. It's one of my favorite desktop environments.

[–] bignoseduglyguy@lemmy.nz 1 points 1 year ago

Good to know.

I would like my sinuses too get over whatever their problem is already.

[–] luthis@lemmy.nz 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I have bad sinuses in general. If it's a day I can breathe properly, it's a good day.

[–] RaoulDuke@lemmy.nz 1 points 1 year ago

I carry one of those little Vick's inhalers with me everywhere I go. It's often the only thing that will get me breathing again.

Currently in Japan sick in my hotel room. The vomiting and diarrhea seems to have subsided and I can actually keep food down now. I'm just resting and eating little bits hoping to get better by tonight so I can go out.

[–] sortofblue@lemmy.nz 3 points 1 year ago

Glad hear you're starting to recover!

[–] NoRamyunForYou@lemmy.nz 3 points 1 year ago

Man my partner got severe food poisoning when we were in Japan at the start of the year.

We only spent a week in Japan, and she was out of action for a good 4 days of it :(

Hope you get better quickly. Drink lots of fluids.

[–] NoRamyunForYou@lemmy.nz 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Man I really hate my XPS13. Had it for a few years now, and Sleep & Hibernation are always so hit and miss. THey will wake themselves up and then crash more often than not.

Tried a few things and nothings fixed it.

I'm not looking forward to replacing my laptop, going to have to learn everything to make a somewhat informed decision.

Thankfully replacing the battery has extended it's life somewhat, just over 5 years old at the moment.

[–] Aaron@lemmy.nz 3 points 1 year ago

Ugh the comparison shopping is the worst. I know some people love it, but I just get frustrated after a bit.

[–] NoRamyunForYou@lemmy.nz 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah, I'm not looking forward to changing either. I really value Long Battery Life and decent performance, but don't game.

Partners got a m2 Macbook Air, and I'm leaning that way more and more now (though the last time I had a macbook, I didn't really gel with it for some reason).

[–] voy1d@lemmy.nz 3 points 1 year ago

Yeah, my challenge is I play games casually so need windows based system. My partner is fully engulfed in the apple ecosystem, mainly because her work is.

[–] fritata_fritato@lemmy.nz 2 points 1 year ago

Posting from the Liftoff app. So far seamless.

[–] Aaron@lemmy.nz 2 points 1 year ago

Good weekend so far. Got up and did some house cleaning, even got to open up the doors and windows for a bit before the wind made it a bit too cold. Got a good friend group coming over like we do every Sunday afternoon, just a chill day at home. No school for the kids this week, so routine will be a bit off.

[–] sylverstream@lemmy.nz 2 points 1 year ago

Joined a Meetup group for a hike this morning, for the first time. Was great to meet new people!

Relaxed afternoon playing xbox and board games with the kids.
