Welcome to today’s daily kōrero!

It doesn’t have to be me making the thread, first in first served. If you are here on a day and there’s no daily thread, feel free to create it!

Anyway, it’s just a chance to talk about your day, what you have planned, what you have done, etc.

So how’s it going?

SO has been complaining about his (admittedly terrible) old laptop dying so I'm installing linux mint over the old Windows 10. He's not a tech-minded person so I'm keen to see what he thinks of it.

I'd be keen to hear the outcome. I have a sunsetted Chromebook and am keen to try Linux on it.

I'm still running updates and installing a couple of extra drivers but it's definitely much snappier than what he had before. And his Logitech trackball now has a battery meter in the system tray, which it didn't on windows, so it's possible he'll end up preferring linux.

I got a chromebook running arch with xfce. When I tried the chromebook related distros they were all broken.

xfce helps get so much more mileage out of old hardware. It's one of my favorite desktop environments.
