I went for a ride this morning expecting to get a feel of my new tires. It was a thick fog day with all the people that think they don’t need lights (drivers and riders) getting invisible too fast for comfort, so no full speed downhill. I also missed my exit and the (dirt) roads look mostly the same for long stretches, particularly when I can’t see the background. Unfortunately the path lead nowhere and, while tracing back, I strangely got to the road I wanted by accident.

I’m still a beginner, but I explored different routes and got lost enough to not worry about not being sure where I am and checking the map. Truth is, I enjoy it. Learning the ins and outs of the small secondary rural roads, going up and down rocky roads, loose rocky dirt roads, sandy roads, mud roads, everything, is so much fun. Recently I stopped to admire the view as well. I ride solo by the way.

I should’ve realized it sooner, but the reason I like my bicycle is how it lets me go to places I wouldn’t go otherwise. The limits of my freedom expands. Going around the same route faster and faster is not for me. Going farther without going anywhere is pointless. Riding is an exercise I chose and I can have all the benefits by just having fun.

That’s me. What kind of fun do you find while riding?

Personally I tend to use my bike moreso to get from place to place than just for leasure. Although I've also been exploring various side-streets lately, mostly to figure out what the best routes are that minimize my risk of getting run over.

I think there should be some bicycle-specific communities somewhere on Lemmy as well, you might enjoy those. Although I only really know about the German one.

That's why I like riding my bike. It's a good form of exercise, sure, but I also get to see the sights and explore my community. Being able to visit local places without a penny spent or a drop of petrol used feels great and it's a lot of fun.

I like going fast! Also stopping for a picnic when the time and place is right

I used to be a solo rider, but have come to appreciate the company of club mates and friends to share the moment with. I like riding alongside rivers and mountains, and under deep tree cover. Gives me a chance to forget about the headaches of daily life and live in the moment and feel alive. I used to wander everywhere by myself, using Strava's heat map as a guide to discover nice routes. After getting into a few road incidents I've gotten a bit more careful heh. If only there were less cars on the road, I'd roam everywhere.

I went for rides with other people before, not many. I live in a small city and its hard to find a group with the same mindset. Riding in the middle of the nature is really the best.

I combine strava and komoot to find new routes by myself. Other riders are a better option in this case I confess.
