https://wefwef.app is a progressive web app, being improved rapidly.

[–] gmask1@aussie.zone 9 points 2 years ago

Just added wefwef to my home pages in place of Apollo. There's almost no upskilling from Apollo to wefwef - they're very very similar. Also, I can't believe web apps have come so far in the traditional 'app' user experience.

[–] calhoon2005@aussie.zone 6 points 2 years ago

I was going to say that it wefwef needs a comment sorting update....but it's been done since I last tried it. Right on.

Took me a second to figure out reply (click on the triple dots), but I just gave wefwef a try, and like it a lot. I will add my own recommendation to this.

[–] aperson 1 points 2 years ago

I'm sure you figured out by now, but there are swipe actions. No need to tap on the dots. So to reply, just far-swipe left.

As in intermediary between you and your primary server, what security is in place to prevent wefwef or similar from leaking your user/pass?

[–] GroteStreet@aussie.zone 3 points 2 years ago

I've always been in the "not everything needs to be an app" camp. Wefwef is currently the best in the "not app" category IMO.

Yeah we can argue till the chooks come home whether PWA counts as an app; but everyone has a browser, so a PWA makes it easier for me to get people on board, whether they're running Android, Apple, PC, or potato.

[–] sizz@aussie.zone 12 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I use my browser. Reason why mobile apps gotten popular on reddit because the website is absolute trash. Lemmy doesn't have this problem.

[–] No1@aussie.zone 11 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

I don't want a million apps that all want all permissions to do shitty things with my information and slow down my phone when I can have 1 app called a browser.

Only ever used old.reddit.com, and now I use that less and less every day and just go to aussie.zone 😜

[–] TassieTosser@aussie.zone 1 points 2 years ago

I was one of the stubborn old reddit users too but I feel that an app makes shitposting much more convenient.

[–] lodion@aussie.zone 8 points 2 years ago

I'm using the native lemmy PWA for signup approvals, and a mix of Jerboa and wefwef for general viewing. Wefwef seems more refined, but Jerboa shows avatar icons etc. I'm hoping that as the apps mature they'll make some of the visibility settings togglable.

I’m using Memmy on iPhone/iPad. Not that that helps you currently. I know the Memmy dev plans to make a android version. I think once the iOS one is out of beta.

[–] cloudburst@aussie.zone 6 points 2 years ago

Using this on Test Flight, it’s pretty good. Very much like Apollo

[–] MindTheGap@aussie.zone 1 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Just started using Memmy on iPhone via TestFlight and it’s pretty good. Nice and responsive.

I also tried wefwef.app too, and it looks like Apollo but doesn’t seem to load with the share to Home Screen trick.

Edit: link to TestFlight https://testflight.apple.com/join/6jaRU6rD

I’m on Mlem. Do you know the difference between the two? I’m kinda confused about that. Is it a different developer?

[–] quasar@aussie.zone 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Different developers. Memmy has an actual iPad mode that MLem so far doesn't have. I feel like the each miss or have different features that the other has. I guess its all down to feature to do lists being different in terms of order. I prefer Memmy over MLem at this point, but I use my iPad a lot for reddit and now this.

[–] useless_modern_god@aussie.zone 2 points 2 years ago

Ok good to know thank you!

[–] Longmactoppedup@aussie.zone 6 points 2 years ago

On Android I first started with Jeroba. Was OK first, the interface is usable. Jeroba has had a lot of issues to do with signing in for the past week so I've given up on it for now though.

Installed lift off which seems decent so far.

[–] ijustdoeyes@kbin.social 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Connect, but the creator of Boost for Reddit has a pre-Register open for his new project Boost for Lemmy

Boost was the best Reddit app I ever used and although I'm primarily Kbin Boost would make me switch.

[–] kiithwarrior 2 points 2 years ago

Just signed up for this. Currently using liftoff which is a good alternative

[–] Nillth@aussie.zone 6 points 2 years ago

Just installed Jerboa & Connect, and I think I'm prefering Connect. Not to say Jerboa is bad, just connect seems to have a little more UI polish

[–] Galah@aussie.zone 5 points 2 years ago

I have tried two, Jerboa and Connect, both on android. I personally like Jerboa more, Connect doesn't seperate the posts very well visually.

[–] strocker89@reddthat.com 5 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Android, using Connect. Previously I was using Reddit Sync and I find the UI to be very similar. Loads quickly and easy to view.

[–] variouslegumes@reddthat.com 4 points 2 years ago

I just switched to connect. It's pretty slick.

[–] Split@aussie.zone 3 points 2 years ago

Same w/ sync and now connect: but I'll keep an eye out for Sync it's getting a lemmy version over the next few weeks 😊

[–] banjo@aussie.zone 5 points 2 years ago

I'm using Jerboa, visually it looks similarish to RIF if you reduce the font size. But it feels very buggy still, like it seems you can only sort by All on your homescreen as when you select Subscriptions it doesn't work.

[–] LambChop@aussie.zone 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I'm using Jerboa, as it was the first one I found, but am waiting to try the new Sync for Lemmy when it's available.

[–] Nonameuser678@aussie.zone 4 points 2 years ago

Jerboa totally shit the bed for me since the latest update.

[–] TassieTosser@aussie.zone 5 points 2 years ago

Thanks for all the suggestions. I settled on jerboa. Cheers.

[–] bird@aussie.zone 4 points 2 years ago

I'm Android and switching between default, Connect, and Liftoff. I'm enjoying both despite little niggles.

I also found out that Boost for Lemmy is coming! You can search it on the play store. I'm excited because it was my app of choice for the old place.

[–] N1NJ4W4RR10R_@aussie.zone 4 points 2 years ago

Currently using Connect for Lemmy. It feels enough like Sync for Reddit that I'll stick with this until Sync for Lemmy goes live, although I will warn that it's a bit rough around the edges.

[–] judasferret@aussie.zone 4 points 2 years ago

I've tried all that I can find and current preference is mobile website (for full featured), jerboa (for making posts), lift off (for doom scrolling)

Here is the most complete listing I've been able to find https://lemmy.world/post/465785

[–] dchen4@aussie.zone 4 points 2 years ago

Using Jerboa, quite nice and similar to RiF that I'm used to.

[–] briongloid@aussie.zone 3 points 2 years ago

I personally like the Jerboa app, coming from Relay, it's updates have been every few days lately.

[–] rustyfries@aussie.zone 2 points 2 years ago

Going to give Liftoff a go. Coming from Baconreader so will see how the experience is.

[–] eatham@aussie.zone 2 points 2 years ago

I use thunder personally, but used to use jerboa

[–] jarrod@lemmy.one 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I'm still using the web browser, now I know my way around it I find it's alright, I just want something like RIF but for Lemmy, I'll get around to finding one some day

[–] calhoon2005@aussie.zone 5 points 2 years ago

Try wefwef. It's a PWA that's pretty good.

[–] slifer@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago

Originally on Jerboa, now on Liftoff. I much prefer Liftoff but I'm patiently waiting for devs to establish themselves on the platform. A few weeks is very little time to create a top tier AAA app ':)

[–] Cosmocrat@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 years ago

Jerboa is my choice, its pretty solid.

[–] m_talon 1 points 2 years ago

After Jerboa's update caused it to be erratic, I tried out Liftoff and Connect. Liftoff looks and feels better, in my opinion. I tried wefwef but it didn't do some things I needed it to.

Look for Liftoff by Zach Russell in the Play Store
