I've always been more into competitive games, like FPS and MOBA. But now, I'm starting to like more story-focused games that will add something to my life, or just awesome games that everyone should play at some time.

Do you guys have any to recommend? Edit: I play exclusively on PC.

So far I've played both Portal games, truly awesome, Hollow Knight and Celeste.

My favorite story game was Bastion for a very long time. Pretty much everything about it is great and it is on deep discount for the summer sale.

My current favorite story game is Outer Wilds. I suggest you know nothing about the game going into it. If you get stuck (and you will at a few points) try to find help that is as spoiler-free as possible. It has a lot of story to it, but the emphasis is on uncovering the story by exploration.

I always recommend Red Dead Redemption 2 for anyone looking for a story driven game. It’s a prequel to the first game…which I also highly recommend. Just prepare to be hit with a flood emotions as the story develops!

I've got a niche recommendation, Brothers, a Tale of Two Sons. It's from about 8 years ago so it's pretty cheep. You'll need a controller, each stick controls one of the brothers. It's light puzzle solving with a great story. Really tugs on the heart strings. A controller vibration brought me to tears near the end, you'll know it when you get there. Total game time is like 4 hours, in and out, bing bang boom.

Metroid Prime. Can't recommend this one enough, the Switch remaster is outstanding too. Wish I could experience it for the first time again.

For a story focused game that really touched me personally, I highly recommend Night in the Woods. It is mostly exploration and choice focused gameplay, not a skill centric game, but the experience is one I will remember forever. Kick ass game

INFRA (on Steam). It’s a fantastic exploration puzzle game with great atmospheric city levels. You’re a structural analyst whose job it is to survey a dam for potential damage, but the situation is much much worse than you or anyone could have anticipated…

There's a podcast group called The Besties and more importantly The Resties which currently are working on putting together a Required Reading list of video games. The idea is for someone coming into gaming fresh, these are the games which are the backbone of all concepts and mechanics in video games. So after playing them you will have a solid knowledge on gaming and can approach literally anything from then on.

Skyrim! You’re already used to FPS games, so the first person part of Skyrim should be a breeze (you can toggle to 3rd person too). It’s one of those adventure games that will really stick with you. My wife and I will both come back to it often.

Outer wilds. It's a nice little exploration game with spaceship and stuff.

I'm on xbox, bought it with the money stadia refunded lol didn't consider steam. I mean that I think they should sell it standalone too, right now they are only taking preorders for the bundle on xbox. Maybe it will be $20 outside of bundle this Christmas, hopefully?

Story driven games! You have to try Steins; Gate, Danganponpa, the Ace Attorney series!
