Jerboa is a native-android client for Lemmy, built using the native android framework, Jetpack Compose.

Warning: You can submit issues, but between Lemmy and lemmy-ui, I probably won't have too much time to work on them. Learn jetpack compose like I did if you want to help make this app better.

With a lot of talk around new apps in development & coming on stream, something I've been happy to see, & commented on, as choice is always a good thing... I thought I'd just voice my appreciation for the Jerboa team, love this App, such nice Ui & UX, I find it very easy to use, all the view options, post layouts, especially the compact view are really easy on the eyes, & great to scroll through quickly. I know there are some errors from time to time, & the odd glitch here & there, but thats something to be expected, given that Jerboa is still in its Alpha form.. Thanks for all you do, each iteration makes the experience, better & better..๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ

Thank you! I do have to remind people that jerboa is still very much alpha-level software... something I worked on in my off-time when not working on lemmy.

I'm super excited tho for it now, because it has a lot more skilled contributors, who actually know how to do android development.

Excellent work.

[โ€“] erre@feddit.win 44 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yea! Jerboa certainly helped me leave Reddit. Well done and thanks devs!

Love to you too. You deserve it. Thank you.

[โ€“] SeedyOne@lemmy.ca 24 points 1 year ago

Jerboa alone has made the transition from Boost on Reddit to Lemmy and the fediverse incredibly easy.

[โ€“] Lexam@lemmy.ca 21 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's already in the place of RIF.

[โ€“] Fredselfish@lemmy.ml 10 points 1 year ago

Same I replaced my RIF with this app and use it daily just as I used to do with RIF. When I get the funds plan on donating.

Yup, Jerboa has been great for using Lemmy on mobile. There are some features I miss coming from Relay, but it's all minor things that don't really impact the overall useability.

[โ€“] Nachtara@feddit.de 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It basically replaced the Relay for reddit app for me. Works pretty good.

What's even better is that the pace of development on Jerboa is extremely high at the moment, there are a lot of features and fixes that are ready to go but have to wait for the next release of the Lemmy server software.

You can follow (and help) development here: https://github.com/dessalines/jerboa

Big thank you to all the hard work and the neck break development pace lately!!

[โ€“] Malthur@lemmy.ml 9 points 1 year ago

I agree, it looks and feels very nice and clean. Of course there's still some small bugs, but it'll only get better with time.

[โ€“] XLRV@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 year ago

Yeah, Jerboa is nice, I can't wait to see what it will become in the future, thanks for all the devs who are working on Lemmy and Jerboa ๐Ÿ™

[โ€“] MrFunnyMoustache@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 year ago

Yup. Using it right now and looking forward to see how it grows along with the platform.

[โ€“] Anamana@feddit.de 8 points 1 year ago

Good job devs, your work is appreciated!!

I wish there was backwards compatibility though, because I can't use most instances (that are Lemmy 0.17.4) with the new Jerboa v0.0.35-alpha ๐Ÿ˜”

[โ€“] 30021190@lemmy.cloud.aboutcher.co.uk 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Works with my instance on 0.18-rc4/5.

I've even posted this from Jerboa and Updated it...

There is also a test release for a Jerboa update which works well.

[โ€“] star_boar@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Sorry, what I meant is that Jerboa version v0.0.35-alpha only supports instances that are 0.18+

[โ€“] baconeater@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

Yeah I'm currently waiting for lemm.ee to update to 0.18 so I can use jerboa again to access it instead of having to use a web browser.

[โ€“] JoKi@feddit.de 7 points 1 year ago

It's great to see what happened in the last 3 weeks. Thanks a lot to the developers.

[โ€“] shadesver@kbin.social 6 points 1 year ago

not sure if I'll stick with Lemmy or Kbin. Jerboa is big plus for Lemmy though

[โ€“] Beatlesandworms@lemm.ee 6 points 1 year ago

Agreed, thanks for a great app! ๐Ÿ’

[โ€“] z3n0x@feddit.de 5 points 1 year ago

Love to see Jerboa on my Homescreen.

[โ€“] fosho@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 year ago (3 children)

I tried to use but when I went to login I got an error that says the server version (0.17.4) is too low. but when I check all the popular instances they are all on the same version. so how is it working for other instances?

[โ€“] elephantintheroom@vlemmy.net 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Same here. We'll have to wait until our instances update their servers to v0.18.

We'll have to use a browser or a different client until then.

[โ€“] laenurd@lemmy.lemist.de 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Or a previous release (<0.35) of jerboa

[โ€“] elephantintheroom@vlemmy.net 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Yep, that's what I meant by "older version".

[โ€“] Rentlar 1 points 1 year ago

Always be wary of downloading random people's files, but you can try my fork which implements some of the 0.35 features (until June 15) but is before the v18 update:

[โ€“] Kovari@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I have issues logging in now too. It just errors and closes the app entirely, haha.

Any idea what that might be about? I've had to resort to using browser for now.

[โ€“] bridger@tucson.social 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

So I'm posting here from a browser. I want to use jerboa but I can't get it to do much of anything. It asks me to log in but gives me no option to do so. I can't find a manual for it or any help. I'm pretty sure I just don't know how to use the thing, but I know I'm not alone

[โ€“] torturedllama@lemmy.nz 4 points 1 year ago

In the hamburger menu on the left you should find an "Add account" button. IIRC it says the word "Anonymous" and you have to tap it to show the add account button.

Some things in Jerboa are a bit confusing for now. Once you get to know where things are it's pretty good though.

[โ€“] Lalelul@feddit.de 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

In the top left there is a button to open a sliding menu which comes from the left of the screen. The first entry in this menu will say "Anonymous". Click it. Now you can log in to a server of your choosing.

Currently you will need to create an account on some instance beforehand. You cannot register from the app. You can only log in.

[โ€“] mombi@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Lalelul... lelo? If you have no idea what I'm talking about never mind!

[โ€“] Kwikxilver 1 points 1 year ago

I wouldn't be using Lemmy if not for Jerboa. You guys are blazing a trail - thanks so much!
