Pretty self explanatory. Post animals, post pets, post stuff about animals and pets!

I now have an account on this instance. So here is the official greeting picture of the piggy gang, happily munching.

Cute babies! My urge to to adopt some guinea pigs gets stronger every day.

I am thinking after my senior cat and dog are gone I may get myself a pair! I have always heard lovely things!

For us it was absolutely worth it. It's quite some responsibility and daily work but having them around is just so rewarding.

They are so cute!

Question, I have multiple friends who have guinea pigs, but they're all quite scared of humans. They're still adorable, but it's hard to get any interaction with them. Yours don't seem that way, did you do anything special to make that happen, or are my friends just unlucky?

It's usually a matter of how much they're handled as babies. If not then it make take quite some time to get them to come around.

There's also a fair bit of technique, like don't come at them from above. They're prey animals and they're quite skittish about anything coming at them from above like how a hawk would.

Ah, actually they are quite shy. They are all rescued, about a year old each, so probably didn't have the best human bonding experience from early on. Only Hazel (on the right) has no problem with being petted but only while she is eating. :D And they come running to every hand held out to them (because it might have some food).

I am hopeful that they will gain some more trust in the future, but it might take a while.
