Been enjoying my time on lemmy.blahaj.zone They also have a misskey (i think thats what its called) at blahaj.zone

[–] alyaza 11 points 1 year ago (2 children)

yeah the big one that i'm aware of Blahaj--although last i heard they were also spending a ridiculous amount of hosting money with no obvious revenue streams to make up for that so i'm not sure if they've got that sorted out

[–] pruneaue@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 1 year ago

Sounds like you made more research than i did. I just saw blahaj so i joined this instance. Was waiting for an instance to have close to a similar feel than my lgbt reddit feed had

There's a donation link at the bottom of the sidebar, and Iirc, the admins said that they're able to cover the cost of hosting (currently).

Iirc, the admins said that they’re able to cover the cost of hosting (currently).

without a specific breakdown i'd always be a little wary of language like that in this space because it could mean "we have enough coming in to more than cover the cost and nobody should worry" but it might also mean "our admin/admins are paying mostly/entirely out of pocket and they're fine with doing that but it's not sustainable forever". (this unique sort of worry is why we're transparent with finances)

They've said they're paying out of pocket, though the only stat I've seen is that it's "significantly" more than $20 a month (which... could be basically anything lol.)

There's a thread here with that info: https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/post/1106021

Nor for me. I have an account there, or had because it looks like it might have gone offline.

There are 15 LGBTQ+ specific instances on the joinmastodon list. More which aren't on the list, but any of these are a place to start. https://joinmastodon.org/servers

6 on calckey's list https://calckey.org/join/#lgbtq+. The main devs for Calckey are very LGBTQ+ friendly.

You can browse the local feeds of instances you're considering to see what others on that instance tend to post. More important IMO is that you find an instance whose moderation policy suits you. But you can always migrate to another server so don't over think picking one. Sign up, follow lots of hashtags and groups (in the Explore box, type in # or @ followed by various keywords for your interests to get started), follow lots of people.

Basically, you're spoilt for choice. Dive in. :)

I hear @queer.party on Mastodon is pretty well populated?

Another mastodon instance (my first home in the fediverse): @tech.lgbt

[–] alex 8 points 1 year ago

and @eldritch.cafe !

[–] thanevim@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

Was my first home as well. Only left it when I wanted a more active local timeline. The admin, David, is truly awesome and supportive.

I heard of there before. Will look into it

Unstraight.club is dope, but its intentionally capped at 100 users

Can second the tech.lgbt mastodon.
