June 19, 2023 – Juneteenth

  • Brush: Dogclaration B16 28mm “Red, White & Black & Blue”
  • Razor: Ever Ready Micromatic Clog-Pruf
  • Blade: Personna GEM PTFE (1)
  • Lather: Barrister and Mann – Bay Rum
  • Post Shave: Barrister and Mann – Bay Rum

No work today, so I slept in an extra half hour before rolling out of bed to get in my run before the heat of the day set in. 75 degrees and 94% humidity made for a swampy 4 miles, but I did see 5 bunny rabbits.

Had a cool shower to get myself back down to a reasonable temperature and then lathered up the BaM Bay Rum. Had a nice, spicy, 2-pass shave with the Clog-Pruf and a brand new GEM PTFE blade. Not quite BBS, but certainly smooth enough for the amount of social interaction I expect today.

Once I hit the post button, I intend to sit down with my soldering station and engage in a bit of #MakeShitMonday. I need to patch up the battery connector on my 2022 BSides Orlando badge and then I’m going to try to assemble the DC DarkNet badge from DEF CON 27 which a hacker buddy sent me.

Have an awesome day, folks. And remember, fuck u/spez.

I've never heard of soldering badges. That's a fun idea.

Electronic badges are a huge thing in InfoSec con (particularly DEF CON) circles. I should take a few pictures of my badge collection.

Just Another Mammoth Monday

  • Prep: Hot Shower - Preshave
  • Brush: Zenith /r/Wetshaving MOAR Boar 🐗
  • Razor: GEM Micromatic Flying Wing, gold
  • Blade: GEM - PTFE (5)
  • Lather: House of Mammoth - Hygge Soap
  • Post Shave: House of Mammoth - Hygge Splash
  • Post Shave: House of Mammoth - Hygge Balm

Mother Nature is doing her damndest to not flip the switch to summer here in Maine, so I figured it was time to blow the dust off the scent that makes winter more tolerable. Ahh, how I have missed Hygge. It's just so damn good. I'm hitting the sweet spot on this blade with the Flying Wing and the extra attention to the blade angle gave me a lovely BBS shave to start the work week off.

Now, where is my damn coffee? Have a great day all!

Jun 19, 2023 - Wholly Mammoth Monday, Batman!

  • Prep: Klar - Activated Charcoal - Face Soap
  • Brush: Chisel & Hound Chocolate Drop 26mm v19 Fanchurian
  • Razor: RazoRock Game Changer .84-P
  • Blade: Gillette Platinum [1]
  • Lather: Wholly Kaw - Amber Bomba - Soap
  • Post Shave: House of Mammoth - Rumble - Splash

The velvety vanilla, honey, and caramel of Wholly Kaw's Amber Bomba is a truly beautiful scent. HoM's Rumble added warm chocolate and rum to the shave making for an incredible pairing. Due to the deep, warm tones of these scents, they are not exactly warm weather scents and will be perfect come autumn.

Based on Reddit's wisdom of the crowd, I paired the razor with a Gillette Platinum to great results. I had a few small nicks from the ATG pass that I'll attribute to having the GC-84 out of the razor rotation for a while now.

  • Lather: Tcheon Fung Sing Traditional
  • Brush: AP Shave Co G5C 24mm

A similar setup to yesterday with a different lather. Not quite as good, I think the blade has dulled a bit.

June 19, 2023

  • Brush: Dogwood Handcrafts with Declaration Grooming B10
  • Razor: C.V. Heljestrand MK 31 11/16 Full Hollow (Straight Shave 256)
  • Lather: Noble Otter - Jack - Soap
  • Post Shave: Thayers - Lavender - Toner
  • Post Shave: Noble Otter - Jack - Aftershave

3 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

NO Jack arrived on Saturday. Until now, I have only owned one other NO soap (Monoi de Tahiti), and based on that, I knew I wanted more. I've been eyeing Plunder but I feel I'll use that more in the fall and Winter.

When Jack was announced, I thought it might be a great fit for spring and summer. And, in my view it is. The scent strength and the scent are light, but the overall effect comes across to me like my Saponificio Varesino products. Sophisticated and complex. I like that a lot. This is the type of soap I could use for days and not get tired of. The soap base is great. I think that's a given.

This Heljestrand just returned from overseas. These MK 31 models are small, light, and nimble, and you have to adjust your technique for that. They're incredible shavers, though. I couldn't help but do (yet) another 3-pass shave.

I think I’m biased because I’m from Texas and it just reminds me of growing up, but you absolutely cannot go wrong with Lonestar if you’re looking for another NO to try.

Thank you! I looked at the scent notes and I'll keep that one in mind when I'm looking to expand my soap collection.

June 19 2023 - Au Revoir Nordost

  • Brush: Boti handle w/ 24mm AP Shave G5C
  • Razor: Gillette Flat-Bottom Tech
  • Blade: Derby Premium (7)
  • Lather: Barrister and Mann - Nordost
  • Post Shave: Barrister and Mann - Nordost
  • Fragrance: Tom Ford - Grey Vetiver

Tub kill! Third of the year for me. Omnibus goes fast (relatively speaking, I bought this tub in January 2022)...this tub was hurried along by my use of a soap hungry 30mm Declaration knot, but I still feel like the amount of shaves I got from this tub would have barely been a dent in a Reserve base tub. I'm not complaining, though it may sound like it, as now I have justification to pick up something new. And the Nordost splash will join my small collection of splashes that have outlived their soaps.

Congrats on the kill!

Happy Juneteenth!

  • Prep: Klar Activated charcoal facial soap
  • Razor: Zwilling J. A. Henckels Friodur 72-V (13/16", quarter hollow or near wedge, stainless steel)
  • Brush: Zenith B21 (XL chrome-plated copper handle, 28 mm knot with 50 mm loft)
  • Lather: House of Mammoth Mood Indigo
  • Aftershave: House of Mammoth Mood Indigo balm
  • Fragrance: Imaginary Authors Saint Julep

The company I work at was just bought by an American tech firm, and Juneteenth is a company-wide holiday. Yay, leisurely afternoon shave instead of early morning shave!

The chonky 72-V was lovely. Just so quiet and smooth, a bit like by 13/16" Wade and Butcher. I didn't smell much of Mindigo because spring allergies are acting up, but I spritzed enough Saint Julep to at least get that.

I got complimented on the Julep, too. I think I may have to share this bottle with my wife going forward. I count that as a win.

Excellent shave. Love this scent still and this new plate works really well. Pretty wet out from all the rain, should be a humid day.

  • Blade: Wizamet
  • Brush: Boti 31mm Motherlode Fan
  • Lather: Barrister and Mann - Passiflora (Omnibus)

I seem to be making a dent in this tub of Omnibus fairly quickly. Probably need to use it more to figure out the optimal loading time.

  • Blade: Astra SP (Green) (2)
  • Lather: House of Mammoth – Shire 2

Getting back into the daily shave groove. I’ve had enough putzing around for the summer already and there’s still a month and a half left of my break. Daily shaving is much easier when I’m shaving my head and can alternate face and head every day.

If any of you have Weinstrasse and haven’t mentholated it, I highly recommend it.

I’m flying out this morning and so did this pre-travel shave last night. It was just as good as the last three times I used it. Sir Irisch Moos has such a great base and scent.

6/19/23

Second shave in with this Fili. The blade feel was just as good as the first, leading me to believe the temper is still good. Really felt like starting the week with Amber Bomba. Nice shave this morning.

Edit: guess I forgot to post this morning

#SOTD Monday 19 June, 2023

  • Prep: JazzRadio.com Station Cool Jazz
  • Prep: Warm Shower
  • Brush: Omega HI-Brush 146206 25mm Synthetic
  • Lather: Chiseled Face Pine Tar 2nd of 10 samples
  • Bowl: LinkIdea Shaving Bowl
  • Razor: 1961 Gillette 195 Adjustable Fat Boy
  • Blade: Shaving Revolution Platinum Series
  • Post: Nivea Men Maximum Hydration Moisturizing Post Shave Balm
  • Post: Pinaud Clubman Special Reserve After Shave Cologne

Okay shave today. Pine Tar has a terrific fragrance, but I didn’t use enough, so my shave was a bit dry and rough at the end while I was trying to clean up some missed bits under my chin. It left some redness, but my post shave didn’t sting at all. Have a great day, everybody!

How do you like that bowl?

[–] Glass_Procedure7497@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I like it a lot. I was told that it's a suribachi bowl, but it was sold on Amazon as a shaving bowl. Whatever, I like it. The textured bottom really whips up a nice lather. The only downside(s) that I see are that it may be too large for some, and the flared rim allows some lather to escape the bowl while whipping up the lather. I have no problem with either. And it was only US$10, so it's quite a deal.

[–] bmac92@midwest.social 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Good to hear. I bought this bowl a couple of months ago off of Amazon for around the same price, so I was curious about the alternatives (pure curiosity; the bowl works very well)

That seems to be a popular bowl. Glad it works for you.

2023.06.19 SOTN:

  • Prep: Neutrogena Hydro Boost Cleanser

  • Brush: AKA Brushworks Amethyst Watchman with 26mm AP Shave Co G5C

  • Razor: Henson AL13(+++)

  • Blade: Gillette Perma-Sharp (4)

  • Lather: Stirling Iced Pineapple

  • Post Shave: Stirling Mentholated Unscented Witch Hazel and Aloe, Stirling Glacial Satsuma Aftershave Splash, Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel-Cream Extra-Dry

So, I really wanted to try out my new razor again, so I decided to shave with only one day of rest instead of two. That was a mistake. I've solidified that I need two days of no shaving before I can do a full shave, yet I keep tempting fate. All things considered, it was a fine shave. I'll just have to way 3 days before getting to evaluate the aggressive Henson again.

At least I had the day off since the power was out at my office.
