You mean like the one linked here? Or something with a specific URL like "killedbymozilla.com"?

  • Brush: Dogwood Handcrafts "Santa Noir" w/Maggard 28mm SHD Badger
  • Razor: Micromatic Clog-Pruf (Gen 1)
  • Blade: Personna GEM PTFE (3)
  • Lather: Stirling Soap Co. - Hipster - Soap
  • Post Shave: House of Mammoth - Santa Noir - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Nivea Sensitive Balm
  • Fragrance: Maher Olfactive - Madame Chouteau

Inspired by some talk on Discord about Hipster, and then seeing @djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social use a soap called "Hipster", I decided to use Hipster. It's a really nice scent that I never got more than a sample of, and now it's discontinued.

I decided to use more of my Madame Chouteau sample, and despite remembering how strong and stanky it is, I did two sprays (sample sprays, mind you). Woof, this stuff is strong. Smoky and deep, it's not for everyone. I like to describe it as being in a basement bar in Europe during WWII (like the scene in Inglourious Basterds).

I have to figure out if this razor is milder than my MMOC or if they're the same. I can't remember if I've ever done a side-by-side shave with them... surely I have?! I used to think they're the same, but today it felt like maybe it's milder? Either way, it was a good shave. Looking forward to my favorite GEM tomorrow -- Bullet Tip/Flying Wing.

Wow, that's a lot of orders.

Is Hipster the same as Stirling's version?

[–] walden@sub.wetshaving.social 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Can you solve that fir me?

I think fragmentation in the community would only really be a factor if there was some sort of rift, and not from having options on where to post. A similar conversation has taken place on Discord, wondering if Discord was absorbing posts and content that should instead be put on Reddit. I don't know the answer to that.

r/wetshaving lost some people during the enshitification of Reddit (the website, not the community). Freedberg comes to mind. I believe some people here are in the same boat, where they just decided they were done with their Reddit accounts.

So to me the question is, if Lemmy wasn't here, would anybody start posting on Reddit again? I think the answer is no. I'm a hybrid, where I still post there from time to time and enjoy answering questions in the DQT, but I only post my SOTDs here for the most part, and sometimes in Discord. The reason for that is because I'm angry with Reddit, but recognize that I'm stuck using it :-)

Lemmy started as a quick alternative during the Reddit boycott, and has survived as just another place to post. If something happens with Reddit again, Lemmy is ready to go!

  • Brush: Dogwood Handcrafts "Santa Noir" w/Maggard 28mm SHD Badger
  • Razor: GEM Pushbutton
  • Blade: Personna GEM PTFE (2)
  • Lather: Chatillon Lux/Storybook Soap Works - La Forêt de Liguist - Soap
  • Post Shave: Chatillon Lux - Delor de Treget - Aftershave
  • Fragrance: Spearhead - Seaforth! Heather - EdP

This combo really came together nicely. La Forêt de Liguist is a really interesting scent. Dry forest smells, almost musty, but brightened up a tad by something. Delor de Treget is more of a citrus type scent, but along the same vein. Proceeding to get even brighter, Heather topped it all off with a big burst of clary sage.

The pushbutton was really nice. Slightly milder than the MMOC, but just as efficient and fun to use. Mechanically it's not nearly as interesting as the MMOC, but it's still sort of cool in that department.

I think there were two upon delivery.

Sample has arrived safe and sound. I find it hilarious to have customs forms on a letter envelope with soap in it.

  • Brush: Stirling 24mm Synthetic
  • Blade: BIC Metal (1)
  • Lather: Barrister & Mann/Zingari Man - Nocturne - Soap
  • Post Shave: Pinaud - Clubman - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Goodfellow & Co. - Face Lotion - Kelp & Sea Mineral

Nocturne is a really good scent. Not too apple-y, and the little whiffs of woodsmoke round it out and add a deepness to it. People used to say the ZM vegan base made it smell different, but I don't have anything to compare it to.

  • Brush: Stirling 24mm Synthetic
  • Blade: allMan - 2 blade disposable (4)
  • Lather: Barrister & Mann - Roam Two - Soap
  • Post Shave: Pinaud - Clubman - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Goodfellow & Co. - Face Lotion - Kelp & Sea Mineral

A really nice travel shave. I almost over did it with the efficient 2-blade cart, but knew when to stop.

I haven't had to spend a night away from home for work in over 2 months! It has been great, but nothing wrong with a little break from reality.

  • Brush: AP Shave Co. - 24mm Synbad Fan
  • Razor: MMOC Gen 2
  • Blade: Personna GEM PTFE (1)
  • Lather: Barrister & Mann/Zingari Man - Nocturne - Soap
  • Post Shave: Aqua Velva - Ice Blue - Aftershave

I shaved last night so I could head out the door early this morning. I wanted a super close shave that'll last me until late afternoon, and the MMOC did a great job.

I was also inspired by @DaveWave94 (sorry, tagging is a missing feature in Jerboa), but had better luck than him with a fresh PTFE blade. I've definitely had rough first shaves, but as I gain experience I'm starting to blame it on technique.

That's on my to-do list.

A new report by the U.S. intelligence community on Tuesday says Russia sought to help former President Donald Trump in last year's presidential election. But the document also emphasized there was no indication Russia or any other country attempted to alter actual votes.

Republicans are reeling from Trump’s undisciplined approach to the opening stages of his race against Harris.

'Sup?

Anything fun or exciting going on in your life?

From the artisan:

Apple of Aetherwood

This is our first 100% original scent in way too long. It starts with an opening of apples and bergamot, with hints of sage, ginger, juniper berries, and geranium, with a base of amber, tonka beans, cedar, vetiver, and frankincense.

While this may sound rather heavy, it's a rich, but still summery scent that is well grounded, but no so heavy and sweet that it would be overwhelming on a hot day.

Coming later this month!

Anyone planning on giving it a try?

The Lather Games theme (from the other website) is:

Information Overload

"Product marketing must list at least 10 scent notes.
Note: remember that notes are scent descriptors used for marketing - not actual ingredient lists.
Caveat: fragrance dupes will count the number of notes listed in the dupe's marketing description - not the original product's description."

Roam Two is a great scent that is not OG Roam, but still great. It wasn't on sale.

Promises - marketed for winter, an interesting scent that's absolutely worth the $5 I paid for it.

Cootie Killer 2.0 hand soaps - I got 6 of them for $2.50 each. I've never smelled Le Grand Chypre before so buying 3 bottles was a small risk, but it was worth it. It smells like a lemon-lime type of soft drink. Fougere Classique is so stanky and awesome, but I might be the only one in the house to use it.

Wildcard Wednesday

"Product can be any singular product you want to use - it doesn't even have to be soap. But here's the catch: any subsequent shave by other LG participants on the same day with the same product will be disqualified; only the earliest submitted shave will earn points for being on-theme.
Note: For the purposes of counting brands for the Soap Brands bonus point, whatever you use here will be counted as whatever brand it is. Palmolive dish soap? Palmolive. Skippy peanut butter? Skippy. Barrister and Mann Cootie Killer? Barrister and Mann. Home-made soap? Assume it's branded however you would usually brand it if you made something. Two soaps superlathered together? Whoops, that's a disqualification."

If you're playing asking with the lather games on the other website, today's theme is:

Christmas in July, but in June

"Product must be:
     - Explicitly marketed as a Winter scent OR
     - Explicitly marketed for a holiday occuring between Winter Solstice and Vernal Equinox OR
     - Strictly feature pine, fir, or spruce. (Evergreens with dirt or lichen? Nope. No dirt allowed in the living room - only the tree!)
Caveat: Products explicitly marketed for multiple seasons or other seasons do not count (eg. ""a summer breeze through pine trees"")."

For those playing along with the Lather Games on the other website, today's theme is:

Sweet Sunday

Product must be a sugary sweet gourmand. Products inspired by sweet, desserts, etc. are good candidates for this theme.
