Ive been enjoying Rimworld recently!

KSP, Stellaris and Mass Effect are also up there with best space games imo

I'm playing X4 Foundations right now. It's like someone mixed the best parts of Elite Dangerous, Star Citizen, and Stellaris into one single-player game. And it runs on the Steam Deck to boot!

[–] sickday@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Right there with you. There's so much content and it seems to solve a lot of the problems I experienced with Elite and SC.

Elite Dangerous. I don't play anymore, but it's still a marvel in the flight model and the sheer scale and beauty of things.

Elite Dangerous consumed my life for a bit but I haven't played it in years. Mass Effect might be number one. No Man's Sky was pretty good too.

same for me, but maybe a bit more recent. i have fallen in and out of love with elite dangerous several times, but i haven’t played in maybe about 6 months or so. i probably have at least 500 hours in the game, i’ve got a fleet carrier that is slowly draining my finances while i’m not playing… but i feel like there’s nothing for me to do anymore other than continue to repeat the same trade routes over and over.

Definitely not something anyone else will mention, and shows my age, but Star Control 2.

[–] s804@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

i have never heard of it, but it sounds like a game from the 90s haha

[–] wave_walnut@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Space Engineers, definitely!

I've spent thousands of hours on it.

[–] s804@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

i have never heard of this, sounds interesting!

[–] Celenas@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

Stellaris and Elite Dangerous for sure.

I tried really hard to like it, but it feels way too arcade-y for me.

[–] Xperr7@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Started playing after the Pathfinder update, and pretty much played non-stop for the next few days.

Trying to convince my friends to play now lol.

[–] s804@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

really excited to play it one day, had so much potential when it came out

Outer Wilds is the most unique space mystery game with rogue-like elements I've ever played (not to be confused with The Outer Worlds). I feel that describing the premise takes away from some of magic of learning the game, but if you like the exploration elements of games like KSP and the puzzle elements of Portal or Stanley Parable I highly recommend giving it a go.

[–] s804@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

oh wow i didnt know it was THAT good, excited to play it one day!

[–] Jarmer@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Probably Mass Effect 2. Just SOOOO good. I never did play 3, probably should get around to that some day.

[–] s804@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

excited to play the series one day, i have heard amazing things

[–] Prej@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

Elite Dangerous and Evochron Mercenary.

[–] Lenguador@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Probably not exactly what you're looking for, but I have fond memories of StarFox on the Nintendo 64. It feels a lot like an arcade game, best played with a controller, but you can play it online here and elsewhere. I had a shot, but even changing the keybindings it's quite hard to play with a keyboard.

I just started Deep Rock Galactic and it's been a great time sink so far

[–] s804@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

oh i have this game but never tried it, thanks for the info!

[–] jules_451@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Star Citizen, while buggy, is a great space game that keeps getting better.

[–] s804@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

i have seen documentaries about this game hahaha

[–] gibandaley@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Descent: Freespace and it's sequel are all time favorites

[–] s804@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

i LOVED Descent 2

Starsector. Been described as "Mount & Blade in space", which I think is still pretty apt. Made mostly by one guy, been in development for years. Still getting regular, substantive updates, has an awesome modding community with full developer support that adds tons of great content to the base game. Can't recommend it enough.

[–] Icebein@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Kerbal Space Program is what got me into orbital dynamics and the math behind it, Astroneer just for the fun and the asthetics of it.

[–] Bluu@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Outer Wilds! It's the game I suggest to anyone who enjoys exploration and puzzles. The story unravels slowly as you piece together clues. The solar system is so fun, with each planet having unique mechanics. One of my absolute favorites!

[–] TheTeaMonster@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Game's literally been in my backlog for so long now, I think I'll finally give it some time now after reading this.

[–] Bluu@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

It’s so good! My suggestion is to try and avoid looking anything up or reading too much about the game beforehand. The magic is really in exploring and discovering things as you go. Beautiful game :)

[–] srai@feddit.de 1 points 1 year ago

Outer Wilds is a really great game! I have some minor grudges with smaller parts of the story and world but it's an overall awesome experience that doesn't take itself to seriously.

[–] cowmakesmilk@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Gotta be freelancer for me. No other space game since has taken a hold of me like that game did.

[–] dbtonez@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

i really dig Everspace. i haven’t played 2 yet but the arcadey flight mechanics of the first really grabbed me.
