So there appear to be two brand new guitar communities, one here and one at midwest.social. I think we're all probably getting used to how the fediverse version of this kind of social media works, so maybe two aren't necessary?

Anyway, posting to both to see what kind of traction/interactions I get

This is a recent build I did, and it's super fun to play:

  • Warmoth neck
  • Nomoonlaser body
  • Bootstrap pickups
  • Hipshot tuners
  • Fender hardware otherwise, though the pickguard is from some random dude on ebay, and it thankfully fit perfectly.

Nice build, my strat is a similar partscaster type build. My pickups are fender custom shop Texas special that I bought back in high school 20 years ago because I wanted to be Stevie Ray Vaughan lol

I agree, there's no technical reason to have two guitar communities, and yeah we're all getting used to how this federated universe works. When I checked yesterday there were no guitar communities, but that could also be because I didn't know how to search the entire fediverse properly. No hard feelings at all if this one doesn't work out, I just want to talk about guitars with cool peeps.

Oh, and yeah, whatever prevails, prevails. I tried to make one myself a few days ago, but beehaw just kept failing out on me. Not sure if they just let anyone make a community or if it’s more of a process.

Whatever. R/guitars was my favorite place on the internet, and I just want to help rebuild that here

Yeah, they were my direct inspiration for making this

lol, don’t we all?

If you ever do another build, I strongly recommend Bootstrap. Super affordable, hand wound, and they sound fantastic. Only downside is you may have to wait a couple of months for them to be shipped.

Awesome, thanks for the recommendation

Go home Tele, you're drunk! Looks sweet dude.

Someone also started a whole music production focused instance, https://lemmy.studio, and created !guitar@lemmy.studio there too. This instance seems to be winning the race in all 3 categories (subscribers, posts, and comments).

Sweet guitar! I picked up a roasted maple Warmoth neck for my p-bass a couple years back and just love the look and feel. (I finished it with a few light coats of tru-oil, I think it's called?)

As for the two communities thing, I actually don't think it's worth sweating over... There could be 10 separate guitar communities across lemmy/kbin/whatever, but once you subscribe to them all you're going to see them all pooled together into your subscribed view (which I have set to my default view on lemmy). One of the big benefits to the federated thing is that we can see and participate in a bunch of communities at one time in a mostly easy way. Naturally there's gonna be some overlap on topics between various servers, but I think if you just alter the way you think about it a little bit it's not too hard to accept. (It would be nice to be able to create collections of sublemmys/magazines to group things in ways that make sense to you. Maybe that's a thing already and I just don't know about it.) That's my take on it, at least!

Very cool shape. That rug steals the show, though.

Is that an offset on a rug that I spy?? Sweet build! A lot of offset tele bodies look kinda strange to me but this one just feels right. Love the grain on the body.

[–] AbstractLinguist 2 points 1 year ago

It sure is! Haha, our culture lives on outside of Reddit!

I’m glad you like this one. I’ve never been a huge fan of the Tele look, so once I saw my first offset version, I knew I had to have one. Then after a couple years of modding other guitars, I decided to just build one. Turned out super fun to play
