I wanna gossip about Dragrace and I’m not sure where I should do it!

Tamar, Do you watch the show?

I think it merits its own community, for two reasons.

  1. Drag Race is kinda divisive in the queer community

  2. I want to avoid spoilers

[–] whinestone_cowboy 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Genuinely don’t know; why is it divisive?

Rupaul can be/is quite shitty

The commodification of drag is pretty gross to an extent too

There's also some unease between parts of the trans community and parts of the drag community. Which, fair enough, if I were a trans woman and after explaining to someone my lived experience, they responded with "Oh like on Ru Paul!" I would be pretty devastated. There's also a decent history of transphobic and/or misogynistic queens (Ru Paul being one of them, anyone else remember "oooOOoo, you've got...

slur-based pun hidden...she-mail"

That being said, my personal experience with drag IRL has always been a wonderful and inclusive space, with men, women, and non-binary people all being heavily featured as drag performers in my community. I can still understand some people's discomfort with it, though, even if I don't necessarily agree with their conception of what drag is.

Thank you for the more thorough exploration than I provided.

Where are the fuckin Drag Kings for one thing.

[–] Evkob@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 year ago

Oh girl I would love a Drag Kings series, they're so ridiculously underappreciated as a group!

Both great reasons tbh

I’m one of those Reddit refugees but I need to find our people (that autocorrected to out people😂) asap to discuss the ep this week!

I was looking for one too, so I created a magazine for it! /m/DragRace

I hope you and everyone escaping Reddit sub so we can create our own little community here.

[–] thegoodwitch@vlemmy.net 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Ah i finally found my way back! Unfortunately I’m ancient and this is really hard for me. Do you know how I can find the magazine? Explain like I’m 105 :(

It took me a while too. On your user name, on the top right, there is a settings symbol. Click that and in the General Options, once of them is 'Show top bar'. You will then see a bar at the top of the screen with lots of Magazine names, and to the far right the option 'All Magazines'. Go there, and you will be able to search magazines by name or keyword. Type 'drag' and you should find it.

If all fails, here's the link: https://kbin.social/m/DragRace

Have some patience. This place is still in development, but the community is already great. See you over at the dragrace magazine!

Great you created the magazine @MinnePuffin but so far I'm the only one posting there. We need to make an effort to make some conversation otherwise people coming from reddit are not going to even consider it an option.

I'm still figuring things out here, so I definitely haven't been very active yet. I'll do my best though!
